    Divx 5x encoder

Does Divx 6x encoder has the ability to encode video into Divx 5x.

I have a HDD media player that plays Divx 5x files but can't find the software
to create the Divx 5x files. Does any know of a good software to do this?

divx 6 still creates compliant streams, the fourCC is still DX50; it should play just fine on your standalone with the correct profile, better speed/quality encoding too.

though i'd still go with xvid

Exactly. DivX 5.x was ASP MPEG-4 Part 2 and DivX 6 is still ASP MPEG-4 Part 2 and as mentioned still using the same fourCC. Think the confusion comes from the fact that the DivX Media Format (hack/extension to avi) was released at the same time. The DMF was designed to be backwards compatible anyway. Still you can put DivX 6.x in a regular avi (or any other compatible container for that matter) or put DivX 5.x encodes in a DivX container.
