camcorder to pc to DVD or VCD

    Hello everyone,
*** not sure if this is the right place for this post?
Well my mother passed away 6 years ago and I have many boxes of her things in boxes. I finally found her old camcorder and 6 tapes with video of my son when he was a baby - 4 years old. I have been playing with many types of software now trying to get the video to DVD with not much luck.

I have the video on my pc no problem there. I can get the vide on VCD that will play on my stand alone. No problems there either.

Now the problem comes in when I try to get two hours of video onto a DVD.
    First attempt- nothing worked
Second attempt. - DVD played on my sons player not my toshiba.

What is the best way or software to get the video on DVD that is compatible with Most players.

I am ripping the video from the camcorder to my pc with Dazzle digital video creator 80. It rips in .AVI
*** my other question is I have noticed when I rip 2 hours of video it takes up like 22 gigs of space.... I do not understand how an .avi can take up 22 gigs for 2 hours of video?

    Thank you

Uncompressed avi can.U can use Picvideo MJPEG codec for a smaller file size.Regarding avi to DVD ,I would suggest u use TMPGenc to make DVD compliant mpeg2 first. Then author them in TMPGEnc DVD Author.

Ok I am thinking that quality issues begin with the rip of the .avi

First is yours from you help.
                    The second is mine
                    big difference.
What software is good to rip the camcorder video to my pc that will give better quality to begin with?
                    Thank you,

Use Virtualdub vcr to capture ur video in avi format. If u r going to make a DVD ,then u must try to capture at 704x480 atleast using MJPEG codec for compression.

                        @ paglamon,
                        Use Virtualdub vcr ,

Will this rip from a vcr.
The video I am ripping strait from the camcorder, they are not on VHS tapes.

I do not have Video Capture card ,
I am using Dazzle digital video capture 80, it is a usb connection to pc and hooks up direct to my cam

OMG I still can not get this to work.
I have followed the instruction from above.

Now when I open TMPGEnc DVD Author this is what happens:

Why is this not being seen as a MPEG-2 as it was credated.

you are loading the original .avi in that screenshot. you must load the converted .mpg file from tmpgenc plus.

What I did was I moved the file to an other folder when it was done. As I had many files in the origianl folder. Once the file was moved it did not see it as the MPEG, I moved the file back to the original folder and now it is working.
I did not realize that you can not move the file to another folder.

                              Thank you,
So far Problem solved I will have to wait and see if this will play onmy DVD player. That will be the true test.

I do have one other question though:

I ripped 2 hours of video and while ripping I had the rip slit into 8 chapters.
Now for the moment I am just playing with 1 of the 8 chapters and so far it was converted into a 2.9 gig file. If it creats a file so large how will I get the whole 2 hours of video all 8 chapters on 1 DVD?
