Problems - JVC DVD Player or LITE-ON DVD writer

    Hi
Would someone be able to help in resolving a problem I have with my JVC DVD player - "XV-N312S" NOT recognising or being able to read or play DVD-R discs that I use to back up my original DVD movies ? <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

    <o> </o>
The problem occurs when I make a backup copy using my new DVD writer - LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S (MSOP - Latest firmware update) with DVD-R’s; I have no problems playing DVD-RW’s, that are burned with this unit. <o></o>
    <o> </o>
If I use my older DVD writer LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW - 1673S (JS0D - Latest firmware update) to burn, my JVC player plays them (DVD-R’s) without any trouble.<o></o>

DVD-R blank discs I use seem to be of reasonable quality from the literature I’ve read and include: <o></o>
    • Sony DVD-R; Manufacturer ID: Sony16D1; 1-16x speed and<o></o>
    • TDK DVD-R; Manufacturer ID: TTH02; 1-16x speed<o></o>
The DVD-R’s are scanned afterwards with a utility of "Nero" and they are recorded to be 100% reliable with no bad sector burns.<o></o>
    <o> </o>
Is this just one of those problems that defies explanation with my new DVD writer?<o></o>
    <o></o>
    Any suggestions would help ?

Chewy is right there has been a problem with the new 6s series drives with -R media. It seems the problem for the 160p6S has been solved with the official PSOA but I don't know about MSOP for ur drive. There are 2 LO fw guys working under the table with CodeKing at cdfreaks and they have been providing test fw. The latest was last week and are available here The "M" firmware are for the 165 drives http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....18#post1482689

Also check out the thread for the test fw results there.

My 160P6S drive is still new in the box I was waiting for the fw to get sorted out whicj it seem it has. Maybe try using +R media and bitsetting\booktyping it to DVD-ROM. Thats what I do for the best compatability with ALL players.

      Good Luck

          Many thanks for your help

I will follow-up on the advice and also wait and see whether there will be an official release of firmware that may address this problem .

          Again many thanks
