Inbedded subtitles cut off on viewing...

    Inbedded subtitles cut off on viewing...

    I have .avi s with subtitles build into them, when I go to convert them to dvd and watch them, the subtitles are cut off at the sides and on occation from the bottem, how can I fix this?

    Sounds like overscan. You would need to pad the video with a black border so that it instead of the subtitles gets cut off.

      How do I do that? You see, I downloaded them like that... And I'm very new to video editing...

        just so we're clear, the subs are also cut off when you play the original avi on your PC?

          No they are not cut off on my pc, only when I play them on my dvd player.

            Like I said; overscan. Fansub groups don't care about overscan, so they don't keep their subs to a safe area. Guess you could always follow their advice which would be to buy a new TV. Otherwise you need to pad as I suggested. As to how. You never said how you were converting.

              I convert them using a program called DVDSanta. Could someone plz help me? I really don't know how to bad video... I don't even know what it means. >< I would very much appricate it if someone can help me out. ^^

                  Well I've never used DVDSanta so I wouldn't know how to pad video in it or even if it can. I can tell you that I wouldn't use AfterEffects though. Check out FitCD it creates AVISynth scripts for resizing taking overscan into account.
