Anyone know why this Blu ray player is not playing Blu rays?

I have a Sony Blu ray player. It was working fine, but suddenly one day it stopped playing Blu rays. It said "The disc cannot be read". However, DVDs still work fine. Does anyone know what is wrong?

If the same error happens with all Blu-ray discs, it's probably the laser that is the problem, either it's dirty or it's just gone. Is it still under warranty? If so, you need to contact Sony to get it repaired.

If it's dirty, you might try a Blu-ray lens cleaner kit (please only use the Blu-ray kit, not the DVD kit).

Before you do that though, if this is a player that connects to the Internet and can download firmware updates, get the latest firmware and see if it helps to solve the problem.

can you just clean it with a soft cotton cloth?
