    help!!!!!!

I got a movie in 7 parts with .001, .002 .... extensions. parts 1 to 6 are of same size. part 7 is a little smaller. I combined them with HJSplit. The combined file now comes to 693 MB. However when i play the file i can play only 5 secs where a message comes to download vodei. i searched on the net and found everyone who downloaded vodei to be repenting so i stopped there. i tried playing the file with windows media player, divx, vlc player, but no use. please tell me what i should do!

    thanx!

      Joining files

      I downloaded a video in 8 parts. xx.avi.001, xx.avi.002 etc.

HJLink recognizes part one just fine and does something with it, but when it finishes and says joined - the new files only has part 1. It is like it recognizes part one, but doesn't move on to part 2. Am I doing something wrong?

        Hello

I've a similar problem but it's not working with HJsplit.

I've files cm.avi.001 to cm.avi.008. Except the last one, which is 47 mb, all other files are 50 mb.

The problem is when i use HJSplit to join, when i click the INPUT file option, a 'select the input file' dialog box appears, and if i navigate to the folder where all the files are there, it doesn't show the first file with extension .001, instead it displays a message, 'No items match your search'. In the list box 'files of type' in the same dialog box, it only shows '001 split files', the all files option is missing. So i'm not able to choose the first split file and i'm not able to join the parts .

        Please help me.

You could try copying your files to another folder. Then use a renamer to rename them 001.avi 002.avi etc.. then VirtualDub should append them all together automatically if it sees the sequence of .avi files when you open the 001.avi file. You may have to rebuild the index when the file is aggregated depending on how they were split.

I'm not a VirtualDub expert so it may be append or some other command but I know dub will do it. You can also do it in AviDemux but you need a custom script for the tools menu. It's not intrinsic to AviDemux. You'd have to google for the script.

This will not do,I think. VD(or AVIDemux) will be able to open only the first file and will not be able to append the rest. Probably because the rest will be missing the headers and VD or AVIDemux will not recognise the file type.

@Stu, do you mean that HJSplit cannot see the .001 file in the folder ? Are you sure that the file extension is really .001(make sure by unticking "Hide extensions for known file types" under Tools/Folder options/View/Advanced settings in Windows explorer) ?

AviDemux cannot intrinsically open the sequence but there was definitely a script that worked because I used it many times. The first time I found it took me about 3 hours searching the web. Now it seems to have disappeared. I suspect the AviDemux where I had it as a custom script is stuck away in my Vista backup image(I put Windows Seven on and had to reinstall everything.)

I know it's possible. It may be easier though, to use a joiner that's designed for the video type.

This program claims to do it:

Thanks guys. Renaming files just like that didn't work. Then i used another suggestion like

                Code:
unticking "Hide extensions for known file types" under Tools/Folder options/View/Advanced settings in Windows explorer
My OS was windows vista. And then I renamed the files again so that the names were x.avi.001 and so on. This time when i used HJsplit and 7zip the files were joined perfectly and i was able to use the whole file of 400 mb.

                Thanks again.

I just found another technique I didn't think to try earlier. Works in AviDemux. Sort the files in Explorer or file manager window so they are ordered by name(.0001 at the top) then press Control-a to select all. Put mouse on the top file and drag the whole mess onto AviDemux window using the Left Mouse Button. They will be appended in one shot. Works on both AviDemux 2.4 and 2.5.

Guess I was distracted having seen that AviDemux script probably for v. 2.3 or earlier.
