    hi there!
just a few thoughts on system protection, 1) whatever antivirus program your comfortable with make sure it's up-to-date (i use Norton myself and it works well for me) 2) make sure you have a good firewall!! there are several good ones out there, free or otherwize. 3) download, install, and use these 3 programs: "spybot search and destroy" Ad-AwareSE personal" and "spywareblaster" these programs are free and are considered by many to be some of the best for removing and keeping malware of most types off of your system. another very usefull program is "HijackThis" you can get it from merjin.org as well as allot of usefull info and links to help keep your system clean and virus free
    hope this helps!

All good suggestions, I use them all, and they work for me and many others as well.

That AVG one picked up on 14 Trojans I had... and also let me know I had 80,000+ files on my computer. Pretty cool.

Now... I need a AVG Keygen.

I know you may only be joking, but just in case anyone decides to help out, please don't as that would be against forum rules (piracy).

use the avg free version as I do. works real good for me and zone alarm's free version is good. after several tests I now use avg free edition and sp2 firewall. check your firewall here http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2 free

the best firewall is zonealarm 4.5. anything above that sucked IMO. too bad i cannot use it anymore as it constantly reboots any pc with an athlon64 + win xp(32-bit) sp2...

i tried versions 5, 5.5, and 6, and they were horrible, so i'm using outpost firewall now...

Zonealarm has some issues with Sophos AV as I found out, though I think that Zonealarm have patched that now

the only bad thing i can say about outpost, which i am still using, is the amount of resources it takes. it keeps taking resources until i double-click the tray icon, then close the window again. then it starts building again

doesn't bother me too much anymore, due to increased amount of ram. i must say though, i like the way it scans for network-enabled files on the PC when you run it first time. best.feature.ever

agnitum did fix a bug in this department some time ago, anonymez

but i can remember very well what you're talking about: the log-file became amazingly big

right now one of my machines states some 56mb ram that is taken up by outpost - but this machine is running for 64 DAYS now

on this machine outpost uses 19mb - both is absolutely fine with me

I am using Defender Pro 2005 it is 5 in 1. I actually paid $29 for this. (first time for everything ya know!) I Love it. It is licensed for three computers. It has anti-virus,firewall,pop-up blocker(wich is a pain I do turn this off and just use google toolbar) anti-spam, and a system utilities section. Has made these computers run very well. I have a Dell Dimension 4300 with maxtor 160GB HD,512 ram, pentium 4 2.6 Ghz, Nvidea Geoforce 4, 64 MB graphics and a Belkin wireless router with Firewall installed. So far very happy!
