what is clean tool???

so what can i use now to create my own dvds? i have a whole heap of videos from my recent trip overseas...how could i author a dvd of all these videos without using nero?

What sort of vids are these? Clearly, Ner0 ain't working with them. Also clearly, your setup works (at least once with DVDs).

If they are MPGs/AVIs, consider using TMPGEnc. Plus or AVI2DVD to convert to DVD. Guides in the stickies in our Authoring and Editing sub-forum.

i went to borneo, malaysia, and took a HEAP of orangutan videos. i have a friend of mine who studies behavioural sciences, and i filmed quite a bit of interaction between a family of orangutans. just small, 3 minute files, but still, pretty good quality...

i also shot a whole heaps of footage of the sultan's (of brunei) birthday festival preparations. other stuff. thai market stalls and malay villages and the like. quite a bit, actually...i went through about 2 512 mb compact flashes in little over a month. all this stuff is just sitting on my computer in avi format, and it would be good to be able to put it on dvd some time soon...

also my recent graduation ceremony, as well as some clips of birthday parties and the like...quite boring stuff, really, but still. sentimental stuff.

oh man...i once used tpmg to rip the audio from a live dvd. it was quite a long, drawn out process...is it easy to create menus and submenus using these programmes???

i guess that's the catch with ner0 (how come you spell it with the zero?). very easy to use, clean interface, but it ROBS your memory, and gives you blue screens...

but having said that, i get bluescreens when i attempt to back up using dvdshrink. is that because it uses a nero burn function???

It may be because of Ner0 burn being enabled. You didn't last time, though, did you?

Try AVI2DVD - there's a whole guide there in A&E.

i tried to restore to a previous date many time, though 'no luck'...

it kept on saying that it failed, or something like that...

is there somewhere i can perhaps post a nero error log, or something? it's pretty huge. can i upload it as an attachment or something???

If you cant restore, then you have a internal software problem. Xp sets a few restores and if you cant do that simple thing, then you got a bug.
try some other spyware progies. sometimes one conflicts with another and messes up the aspi/dma and other things. If youre using zone alarm, get rid of it and try NOD32.

thanks for that! i was using a mixture of avg 7.0 and a squared for anti-virus and malware detection. i downloaded nod32, and i'm running a scan of my drives, and already it's picked up about 10 extra trojans/virii/malware...

you think it's a bug??? now, is it the bug that won't allow me to author dvds, or is it the bug that won't let me restore???

okay, i think i know what the issue is. or at least it woould contribute to the problem...

i tried to burn an authored dvd video. i had speedfan on, and i was keeping a close eye on the temps. within 5 minutes, the temps rose 8 degrees, from 52 - 60 degrees. as soon as 'temp 2' hit the 60 degree mark, nero closed itself automatically. no bluescreen, no restart and no error prompt. nero just disappered...

am i able to control the temps of the cpu/hdd? on speedfan, it only shows the rpms of fan 2. does that mean that i only have one fan that is working? fan 1 has 0 rpms, whereas fan 2 is over the 2000 mark. i think my cpu/harddisk is overheating, and that is causing the programme to cancel.

does that seem likely? what can i do about this???

Like anony said the cpu is meant to go up to 80C, however they all report
differently(motherboards) what you see as 60C might be measured further from the core and really be 80C. My soyo here seems to run hot, it's reporting temp closer to the core, I am rock solid stable at 50.
fan running 0 = no fan?
take the side off the case, leave it open muzz, I was afraid of this when I heard you were downunder. Get a small fan and point it at the case.
Now monitor temps and see what's up.

chewy, my desk has no space on it whatsoever. no space to even have a fan on it. i was wondering if perhaps there was a programme that could regulate the temps on the motherboard/cpu/hdd and keep them at a desirable speed...

is it because it's summer here that the comp is overheating? would it be a different story if i was to be doing this in winter???

unlikely, your fan *should* be able to keep it at a reasonable temperature. unless your room temperature is say ~45c+

nah...it's high twenties, at the present...no aircon/fans in here, so that is pretty much as bad as it gets. never to 45, though...

which of the four temps is the one which matters? also, when i have speedfan on, there's a little icon (a start up icon?) in my system tray, next to the time, which always says it is in the thirites. currently 38. is there anything i can do to keep it from going that hot?

this is not debatable, it's an issue that needs to be resolved, it's either overheating or not. no ifs, ands, or buts
Simple experiment, report results, just get some air directed into the case.
No software program can make up for poor air flow!
