Summer before last we got some real hot weather, we had one of my
cheapo computers in our shop(no AC), one of the guys fell into love with
large downloads, he fried 2 computer in 2 weeks in the heat. I ripped his arms out.
Both amd xp 1700's
so i can actually 'fry' these computers??? as in, i can seriously overheat them to a point where they are irrepairable???
i manage to speak to a mate who does techwork. he said for a computer like mine, with the amount of usage it would get, a few extra case fans would work fine. he said it wasn't the best choice, nor the most suitable, but for the little amount i actually 'work' the computer (i don't run any servers nor do i take part in any intense online gaming), the fans would do the job...
how do you actually 'attach' the fans? can you actually purchase these case fans on their own? also, do they get plugged into any part of the motherboard? in the slots??? i know some of this must sound dim, but bear in mind i have NO idea what i'm talking about, as most of this is SOOO far over my head it's not funny...
you see, that fan would work excellently, if i had any space in this room...
blutach, i tried with the fans this morning...it didn't really make that much of a difference. the computer restarted after getting just above 60 degrees...
bribing the techguy would be a good idea, but you see, he's a STAUNCH believer of 'leaving work related matter AT work'. he gives me the example of the male midwife who doesn't like to, well...you get my picture...
i guess i could bribe him somehow to install the case fans. i don't really 'know' him all that well. he's friends with my nextdoor neighbours. i know him enough to talk about this stuff with him. i dunno if i could ask him to do it for me...
the computer store where i get my upgrades reopens next tuesday, so i may have to wait till then. i just hope the fans do the job.
question: can fans reduce the heat of the mb/cpu/hdd THAT much??? how much?
