VHS to dvd using tv tuner card???

well,i have a few old vhs's id like to burnb to dvd,
i have in my computer an old xpert tv/fm tuner card (pvr 878) so i was wondering if i could connect my old vhs standalone player to the card, and capture the contents on my computer, and then burn it on dvd?
what software is best for capturing video...

according to the number 878 it sounds like your card is equipped with an old BT/booktree chip

you can of course hook your vcr to this card and capture for example to a rather lossless avi file first and then convert this (very large!!!) avi file to something dvd compliant

BUT those 848/878 cards were limited in their resolution if i remember correctly

i dont think you will be able to capture with more than vcd resolution and therefor you shouldnt UPSAMPLE the avi with a resolution of let's say 352x480 to full dvd res

i am NOT sure about your card

          you better check yourself

...but keep in mind that the vhs resolution is far away from 720x576 so imho there is no use in going higher than the input resolution of the vhs
