    My monitor is messed up!

    HELP ME!!!

My monitor started going bezerk yesterday, and I don't know what's wrong.
What happens is I will be doing something (anything from encoding a video to replying to a post) and my monitor just goes black. The green light stays on, and you can see a very dark impression of the screen. In order to fix it, you have to turn the monitor off then on again. Just in typing this post, it did it about 5 times! I am starting to lose my mind when this happens!!!!

Just did it another 3 times in 10 seconds.

Right now I'm using my mom's computer that works

I filmed my monitor going off 5 times in 30 seconds, I am encoding it now (so it's not a huge 50MB file)

        Alright, it's 5MB, DivX compressed:

Anyone have any fixes for this? It's driving me crazy!

Sounds to me like you need a new monitor. If you were losing your video card output I think it would give you a " No Input Detected" kind of message when it went black. Is this an LCD???

And I agree with PhotoAngel, it's really nice outside today

Yes, it's an LCD. Watch the video, you'll see what I mean.

The problem has absolutely nothing to do with the PC itself - if I unplug the monitor from the computer, it goes into a "self-test feature check" screen. It happens there too.

I am thinking of running out to the computer store and asking them for help.

And what exactly am I supposed to do outside? Take my PC out there with me

Also, I am pretty much broke (I have about $15 in my bank last time I checked) so it better be a fixable problem or I will just about rip my hair out in frustration. Good thing my birthday's coming up... but I wanted to spend that money on a good capture card, not a replacement monitor.

Well, I did try another power cable, same problem.

The blue data cable is attached and cannot be removed.

I don't have another monitor to try, but I am sure the problem is the monitor, not the computer. (I don't want to disconnect my mom's monitor just to test something)

                          LOL!

Just curious, do LCD monitors ever "die"? I have had it for 4 years, but I think it's weird that it just all the sudden started doing this. Yesterday it went off once during the whole day. This morning, it was maybe once every hour and then started more and more frequently and now it goes off every 2 seconds.

Should I take the computer to Micro Center and see what they say?
Or should I call Dell and ask if their lifetime warranty covers that?

                              Thanks.

Do monitors die though? I had an old CRT (or whatever) monitor die, but this monitor from my mom's computer is over 6 years old and working fine (not LCD)
