      Except lifetime warranties

Seriously though, is that the symptom of a monitor dying?

Something just came to my mind. Do LCD monitors have a backlight? What happens when the monitor goes black is I can faintly see the computer but not enough to do anything. Maybe it's a backlight issue.

I really do not know I have have 3 monitors one is 8 years old one is 4 years old and mine is 6 now and they are all fine. I never had one die yet.

I have a friend though that bought a dell and hers died within 8 months she got it replaced under the warranty she had with Dell.

        Give them a call

          YAY!!!!

Dell is sending me a new monitor, it will be here in 3-4 business days. Now I love Dells' warranties, I should call another extension and ask about the speakers that are on the edge of extinction.

Then maybe my hard drive, the CD drives (just kidding, but I am serious about the speakers)

Definately call about the speakers. A friend of mine got a Klipsh set with his PC, and the speakers were making a nasty static type noise. So he called support and they sent him a new set. He got the new speakers and set them up, but the noise was still there. So he then got a new soundcard, and all they ever asked to have returned was the old sound card. So he ended up with two 5.1 setups, and not sheap either. But the dang guy wouldn't let me have a set

              cool!

I am using my sister's old monitor, it looks so weird in here! Stupid picture is curved! (it's not flat panel)

I had to take the base off just to get it to fit in here... it's too close to the desk's edge!

I have wantted a flat panel myself I just cant justify spending that much money though. When the one I have works great.
Some day I am sure mine will die and I will get one but for now this one is fine for me.

I was lucky enough to have mine die the same week as my Mom buying a new one. The lovely lady she is, just gave me her perfectly good old one

Mine was free, but they run about $200 for one like mine. Right now I am stuck using a crappy old-fashioned one.

They are cheap now. I bought my first LCD monitor four years ago and it was £500 for a 17". A 17" can now be bought for less than £150 now.

Mine would have been $200 but it came with the basic system for $499... although after upgrading the basic piece of crap that was included, it reached $1100 with a $100 rebate. (I had to borrow about $75 dollars from my parents, and they just gave me that since I worked hard to save up the rest of the money)

Just curious, do LCD monitors ever "die"? I have had it for 4 years, but I think it's weird that it just all the sudden started doing this. Yesterday it went off once during the whole day. This morning, it was maybe once every hour and then started more and more frequently and now it goes off every 2 seconds.
Well I am not sure what the expected hours of life are for an LCD monitor, but if my basic calculations are right 4 years x 365 days x 10 hours a day = 14600 hours. I would be tired and shut off if I worked that hard.
