This sucks...all downloads freeze!!!!!!

Running xp on a almost brand new pc. All programs work fine and i can surf the net with no problem.

The only thing i cant figure out is that when i go to download a file. The download just stops like at 2% and 49%. I've cleaned out my cache and i have plenty of room on both hard drives, so that's not the problem. I can start the download of any file, but then it just stops and freezes on me

download what kind of file, from what software?

any mpeg file a movie clip, any file i download from like download.com like the klite codec pack - they all freeze

I never had this problem till today

the only programs i have on my pc are
dvd shrink
dvd decrypter
utility tools 2006
avg anti virus
lime wire
tren micro spyware

what mainboard and what chipset are you using?

nforce4 with active_armor for example can be a pain in the ass with internet connections

I have no idea what your talking about. I dont have that much knowledge about pc's

i did put my pc together couple weeks ago, and my hd failed on me. everything worked fine including dowloads

today i exchanged the hd for a new one since it was under warranty and now im having this problem

can you give us the name and model of your mainboard and that of the new harddrive?
(and not only asus + maxtor please *g*)

If the problem only happened today, try a system restore.

I am guessing it's a driver issue, if the hard drive that was just changed
was the system drive

motherboard: gigabyte technology K8M800-8237
amd sempron processor 2800+
1.61 ghz 512mb ram
same hd as before - western digital WDC WD400BB-00JHC0

I tried a download manager. the downloads still broke but completed but took longer

I had a similar problem with a via based board and the integrated lan driver,
it disappeared when I reloaded windows xp and used the default driver

So your saying i should re-load windows xp over the existing one? The mb did come with a via disc that loaded drivers

try rolling back the driver from device manager

the VIA RHINE 2 Ethernet fast adapter??

yes it was under network adapter. I rolled back the Rhine ethernet fast adapter driver and it did not help
