    Problem opening video folders

My original files were mpeg2 which I had captured from VHS but I had to convert those files to DVD-Compliance in order to use the DVD-Shrink software to shrink those big files to burn to DVD, I am using TMPGenc to convert from mpeg2 to DVD-Compliance, all of this worked great the last week but now for some unknown reason I am having problems opening the different folders within my main video storage folder, when I try to open a folder, all I see is the "hour-glass" that takes forever so I have to use ctrl+alt+delete to close the process but note that this problem is happening even when I try to open "empty" folders within the main video folder.
Since I only have trouble opening these folders I have to think that this problem is video-related somehow? Anyone got any idea or fixes please? Thanks.

I am wondering have you done a full scan for any virus or spyware that may have attached to your video files?

I have auto-daily scans run on my pc and none of the files came from the net, they all came from VHS to pc, thanks.

        How large are these files?
Do you have them all converted and is the original Raw video still in the same folder.

I have notice when I was doing my own video from camcorder 2 hours of video when ripped to my HD as a .avi was over 22 gigs. Until they were converted.

What are the specs of your pc, how much ram do you have?

The biggest file I had ever captured was 11gig, the most files I had at any one time in my folder totalled 80gb, at that time I had both raw and converted files insinde different folders and never had this problem, right now I only have a few small files left to do totalling a mere 5gb so I can't see that this has anything to do with either RAM or file type or size seeing that I was dealing with the much bigger files all this time without ever having this problem, appreciate you asking.

I wish I could help you more with this one, but I am at a loss here for a solution. I was thinking that if the files were all real large and you didnt have much momory, but this doesnt seem to be the case.

I am wondering if any of your files have some how become corrupt.

Hopefully some one else can provide more help.

Have you installed any new s/w since the problems began?

I think Chewy has a great question, in how fragmented is your HD. I know that this can cause the problem you are describing. Whether or not that is your problem I do not know, but it is the first place I would start.

I do a lot of deleting info from my HD, so I defrag it probably more than necessary. I do have Norton installed on mine so before I analyze or defrag, I first use one button check up to clean my clutter, then I check my protected files and click purge yours, then I finally defrag.

I don't usually have these kind of problems cause I keep data on a different
partition or drive from my system files and program files. I have seen how fragmented(analyze) a data drive gets dropping 4 and 7 gig folders or files on and off of it.

Yes, I had installed quite a few programs while going on on this DVD burning trip until I found the programs that did the job.

It is possible that you may have some software conflictions.
Try uninstalling all programs you are no longer using.

It is also possible that some of those programs may be running in the background creating problems.

given this, as suggested by mig$y already--try the system restore.
