strang Warning I am i have never seen before tonight.

Hello all,

Tonight I am having an issue with my computer that I have never seen before. When I go to make a New folder on my desktop or any where for that mater I can not name / re name the folder without this warning poping up.

I have no idea what this means and how do I get it to stop doing this.

means an application has at some point been installed in that folder or one of its subfolders

shouldn't be happening for a new folder you just created though. start with spyware/adware/virus scan

That is what I found to be so strange its every time I creat a new folder.

I am running norton now. So far its not finding anything.

Full virus and spyware scans found nothing still can not name / re name new folders its puzzling me.

Do you do Intelligent Updates from the site or use liveupdate in the program?


From the symantec site about updates -
How often are LiveUpdate definitions updated?
That depends on the antivirus program that you use.

If you use Norton AntiVirus 2005 or earlier or Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.0 or earlier, LiveUpdate definitions are updated weekly. The exception is major outbreaks, when definitions are updated more often.
If you use Norton AntiVirus 2006 or Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.0, LiveUpdate definitions are updated daily. These products include newer technology.

Also it doesn't hurt to scan with more than 1 antivirus program. Try some of the onlines scans also.

Then a restore if necessary or maybe even a reinstall...Hope not

and windows has linked to that attribute

What is a registry cleaner that you would sugest.


I use Norton Internet Security 2006 which in cludes:
Norton Antivirus / Norton AntiSpam and more.

I have the current ad-aware.

I have gotten pretty good at not messing mine up so haven't really tried any for over a year. Did try 2 this morning, first one was a tease second one seems ok and on the up and up.

I suspect at some point you've run/installed an app into C:\Documents And Settings\username\Desktop\New Folder, and it registered itself with Windows. Now each time you create a folder there it has that name, and Windows warns you about doing anything with it.

If you search through the registry for "New Folder" you might be able to work out what's causing it.

If Chewy's doesn't fix the issue try this Registry Mechanic

If you are downloading a free trial version of the Software, you may use it on one or more computers for an unlimited period of time

It shoud fix the issue !

"New folder" is now what ever I want to name it. Problem seems to be solved. Other then the fact I can not seem to get on Iamge Shack now but then again they just may be down.
