My daughter is one of the user accounts on our computer but she has now bought her own. I have been setting it up today (no chuckling). Now we are ready to transfer her files over to her computer. I have downloaded FastStream NetFile Server & have been reading the user guide but I don't know if it's been too long a day or what but I can't even get started. It is installed but I can't get anything to show up like it does in the guide. Just to let you know they are some decent size files, audio/video etc. So does somebody know how to get this program started or is there an easier way to do this like file transfer for dummies? She is on our local network connected through a router. If you need any more info, just let me know.

Sorry if my question is a little dumb, but why do you need an external software to do this? Can't you simply drag_&_drop data or do a copy_&_paste from a directory to another through the net?
I did file transfers betweeen my computer and my brother one many times simply using windows explorer. Both computers are connected through a local networkComment

Boy I am really feeling dumb today. I don't know if this answers any questions or not because I have never done anything like this before. Some of the files I am talking about range from MB's to GB's & she wants them onto her computer & we want want them off of ours.
@ UncasMS I have never created a temp directory so where would I create this & how would I allow access from the other computer to ours. I know this sounds dumb but right now I am doing this from scratch & still somewhat computer challenged.
@ geno I think the reason why is the time to download. These files you transfer, are they the size in question.
I do appreciate both of you stepping forward.

dont get intimidated and give home-networking a try!
i prefer a temporary directory (which is a dir that will be deleted later on by yourself or anyone else with apropriate rights to do so) as i never use the *shared dir* ever but you may as well use them - up 2 u
do NOT share your entire drives or folders with sensible data in them - therefor better create a new and empty directory
maybe this can help with the first steps:

I actually understood the first 4 pages that I read, thanks UncasMS. Oh I never said I wouldn't give it a shot but I just have to be more knowledgable about it which I think that article will do. Once again everybody's input is appreciated, thank you.
Edit: @ LT yes they do.
@ anonymez (local area network) see that article is working already (LOL).
Thanks to all again.Last edited by soup; 14 May 2006, 10:39 AM.

when lan/wlan is working there isnt much to do; i guess that's what anonymez and i are driving at
- you need to share a folder (ideally one on each machine)
- make sure that the rights you're setting will include something like: user may change files (or otherwise you set read-only rights which is of no help when you want to send files and thus WRITE into the other machine's folder)Comment

Thank you for the info.
Update: Followed the guide & got up to the page where you find the other computer. Of course it couldn't find the path on either one, but that was late so that is where I will start back today in between visiting the wife's mother. At least I see what you are driving at with (LAN) so that is good.
