Well they figured it was OK to hijack it for a few days since you have company visiting. They will return the thread by the time your company leaves, at least I hope so.
All went well with installing the new burner. Easy Peasy Japaneasy. They sent me a Samsung SP2004c, don't know if it's a good drive or not but it's been working so far, so good. Had only one problem and I'm sure you will all get a good laugh over this one. Left a dvd in the drive and didn't figure it out till it was uninstalled. Finally got it out but not without cutting the he11 out of my brother in laws fingers and mine on the sharp metal!
Lesson learned:
Make sure there are no Dvds in drive BEFORE removing it from PC!

No little hole to put a paperclip in to eject the DVD/CD when not powered up?
Congratulations, Glad you got the new one in. Well at least you won't forget to check the drive next time, oh well it's all in learning. But if it does happen a 2nd time, you can just plug the power line in and push the open button, you do not have to have the other cable or anything else installed, also should be an eject hole for loss of power.
@jm1647
Found several little holes. Four of them had M3 with an arrow pointing towards the holes on the underneath side, one in the front under the tray. Couldn't get them to do anything. My BIL repairs helicopters for the army and he was "in charge of the project". Where would the little hole you're referring to be located?
@copyless
Thanks, I didn't realize the dvd was in there till hours later when the company wanted to watch my Stewie Untold Story and I couldn't find it. The pc was all put back together again.
The one in front under the tray should be it. Straighten out a paper clip about a inch and a half or so and stick it straight into the hole and push, it should eject the tray if its the right hole.

BIL tried that but it didn't do anything at the time. I just got it out and tried it again thinking maybe he didn't get the paper clip in far enough but no such luck now either. Who knows maybe we screwed it up when we took it apart to get disc out!lol Oh well, it was dead to begin with but for some reason HP wants me to send it back to them. I'll remember that for future reference tho!

I'm not sure if this is the HP burner you have but have a look here. All PC based burners I have seen have a way to manually eject a DVD. Some on the MACS you have to take the faceplate off tho.
