unless you install some big games, 20 gigs is fine but always allow a few
extra gigs just in case(I prefer 5-10 myself).

Danny I have got an extra 80 gig sata I will set it up and post some screen shots tomorrow if I get time

that would be fine, you can always create a program folder on another partition or drive and install some 5 gig games there.

That was what I was worried about, my program files folder is huge... I used my 60GB drive to install LimeWire on, but the other programs take up tons of space (my start menu is filled completely, even with subfolders.)

Will my 200GB drive show as two seperate drives under Windows?

a data folder for any program can be put wherever you choose, for example I create a mp3 folder on a data drive/partition and rip to it with music match

The other thing about the partitions, my My Documents folder is HUGE, I got like 12GB of music, music videos, not to mention tons of other stuff in there.

Is it worth partitioning at all?

drf the whole point of a clean install is the clean part. won't be clean if you keep all the clutter. give yourself some time to sort everything out, back up files you won't be using/updating any time soon, & delete what you don't wish to keep

I would do that, but the problem is I don't have the resources to back it all up. I mayaswell just transfer from the bad drive to the good one...

that's a new battleplan, just hope you have a handle on that trojan

I got like 12GB of music, music videos, not to mention tons of other stuff in there.
why leave it in my documents, that's what data drives are for

Um, isn't that what "My Music" is for?

I like My Documents, it's nice and organized, I have folders for everything.

About that trojan, none of my programs can detect it, is it definately a trojan or just some bug?

my documents does not have to be on the system partition

So will this make the My Documents on the Start Menu go to the folder I choose?

So let me ask, what exactly has to be on the system partition and what doesn't?
I can install programs to the bigger partition, but what about the other stuff on the start menu, settings etc?

leave the bulk of programs on the system partition and the bulk of data elsewhere, the whole goal is to have an optimized machine that's fast and healthy. There's nothing worse than windows trying to defrag gigs of data
in order to work fast itself.

My Program Files folder is huge however, does it make sense to install them to a data partition?

Not only did I buy that new HD, I got the last one in the store.

I shall hook it up tomorrow once I figure out partitioning.
