How can I boot my pc up in Safe mode?

I am wondering on how to get my pc to boot up in safe mode a problem came up today and I for the first time was not able to get it to boot up in safe mode.

I have been able too in the past but as of today I can not.

Using the F8 key at the start of it rebooting no safe mode just boots up normal.

Anyone else ever have this happen?

Anyone else ever have this happen? i have i just used the System Configuration Tool Method
Step 1: Close all programs so that you have nothing open and are at the desktop.
Step 2: Click on the Start button then click on Run.
Step 3: In the Run field type msconfig : Press the OK button and the System Configuration Utility will start up Click on the tab labeled "BOOT.INI
Step 6: Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "/SAFEBOOT" Then press the OK button. After pressing the button you will be presented with a confirmation box
Step 7: Press the Restart button and let the computer reboot. It will now boot up into Safe Mode.
Step 8: When the computer boots up do what diagnostic or troubleshooting tasks that you need to do.
Step 9. When are finished with your tasks, complete steps 1-7 again, but in Step 6 this time uncheck the checkbox labeled "/SAFEBOOT". Then click on the General tab and set it for Normal startup.
Step 10: Reboot the computer back into normal mode ****this is for windows xp****
    hope it helps

I dunno F8 works for me to get into safe mode all the time. This is how you also get to log into the built in Administrator account.

Don't hold the F8 key down but hit it like a woodpecker...tap, tap ,tap, tap and it should work.

after you press the power on button the keyboard lights will flash, you have a second or two with a fast computer to go into bios, after the bios post you will hear your hard drive spin up, if you have the option to turn off a stupid
splash screen at bios post, do so! During the bios post you will see a lot of stuff flash on the screen, hitting the pause break will stop it there, enter/return key resumes, there will be a little horizontal cursor blink, that's the exact moment you can hit the f8 key, had bad f8 keys, just pull power (during bootup)and windows will give you the option to go into safe mode after powering back up.

I had a similar issue last month. Finally figured out that F6 - F12 on my wireless keyboard had mysteriously died. I must have spent 2 hours pecking away at F8 and F12. ??? no longer use wireless.

usb and wireless don't give you full control of the computer during post
                      in all cases

when I work on a computer I use the plain jane tools

in bios there's a setting that enables usb for low level control(something to that effect) usb still works for safe mode tho

I spent 30 minutes trying to get a friend of a friend into safe mode the other day, finally said just bring me the computer! It used to be real easy when computer took 5 minutes to boot, my newer ones give me a window of 1-2 seconds at most.
