I'm like jmet and PA. Behind a router and Norton. My employer insists on Norton, luckily the 2006 version is much more user friendly than in the past.

Norton Internet Security 2006 w/ System works, is what I use. I have never had a problem with Norton, but it may be because I have used it since it's inception, so I am used to it. And the few times I have had a problem, they have always resolved it to my satisfaction. Like not too long ago my serial # was killed because of excess installs, when I called the customer service told me I would have to mail in the disc. I asked to speak to tech support and within the next 10 minutes, my serial # had been turned back on.

I used to use Norton AV and Firewall until I got three viruses through in one go. I then used AVG and that failed on me as well. Since, then I have been using Avast AV and Zonealarm with no problems and no viruses.

Keiro firewall is another good one.

I did get a virus that blew my hard drive while using Norton, but it was the version before 2006. I think I'm going to try Avast AV and Zonealarm. Are they easy to use?

Nortons and Spysweeper, not much has ever gotten through.

Edit: Except for this trojan called "Little Witch" a couple days ago, Spysweeper got rid of it,
I have no idea where it came from..

The free version of Avast is called Avast Home Edition. Avast requires a free registration that a serial number is sent by email. This number will last a year when the registration has to be done again.

Both programs are easy to use.

Zonealarm version 6.5.722.000 on the XP computer
Zonealarm version 6.1.744.001 on the ME computer

AVG anti-virus on both with updates almost every day.

6 years no problems. Very small amout of virus that came thru the mail gets locked into the virus vault, and discarded. ALL FREEWARE

                          ...
                          Firewalls:
On this box, a Linux box, I have no firewall installed.
But I may install Firestarter someday soon.
On my other desktop pc (winXP) I use Net Defense.
On my winXP notebook I use Zone Alarm (free).

                          AV software:
                          ClamAV on the Linux box.
                          Norton on the XP desktop.
                          Avast on the XP notebook.
                          ...
