I just started a work unit that is using just over 100megs of memory instead of the usual 4 megs. anyone had this yet. taking about 44 minutes for each percentage to complete. previous work units were anywhere from 8 to 21 minutes. Is this running correctly. core is 78.

Looks like it will take a while to complete. Why so much memory usage compared to other work units?

According to here Gromacs are supposed to be faster. The one I lost was a gromacs and was taking a long time also

Nothing fast about this unit and the excessive memory usage worries me. I turned my computer off last night because the temp jumped 5 degrees above normal within a few minutes of starting this unit. My average completion time at running 24/7 is under 24 hours per unit. This unit would take about 75 hours running 24/7. Scary!!!

And on the AMD 1500+ 1GB RAM box , its been working on a Gromacs 24/7, with some surfing and DVD backing up, since August 11th and am now at 82% of a 20000000 WU (2124)

I've been seeing those 2124 protiens here and there they are indeed long and drawn out. the points aren't that great either. some machines may do better with tinker cores. if they are landing nothing but those 2124& 2123 protiens.
they aer a lot for some machines to handle.

@jm I had a log not that long ago that looked very similar it was caused by a power outage though. if you suspect system crash then you may adjust the processor usage under the advanced options. you can also define memory usage.
also losing the adv.methods flag can avoid those intensive wu's but remember they "normally" provide the best points.

@l8 - yeah it mighta been a momentary light blink or something I dunno. I gotta either get a new battery or a new UPS.

@soup - 4 days on your box, about 7 1/2 on my AMD1500 and probably a month on the PIII

I've upped my production a bit, it looks like most of the team is bogged down by them ugly 2124's

I had to take a short lapse last week my hd was clogged with movies, that were awaiting encoding, almost had me using shrink again (forgive me JDobbs) just to save cycles for folding (am I addicted or what)
I should be good for a while now, not that I ever actually catch up
