The Samsung SH-W162C is a respectable reader, it is by no means the fastest reader on the block, but during our read tests it proved reliable.

reliability is more important than speed

its just hard to use this drive when my nec can do it in 8 or 9 min

For this test you need the new drive at the end of the cable, jumpered master. Make sure it's a good burn/clean disk you are reading. We'll reflash firmware from safe mode if we get a slow read. Then retest. Then we will test the nec in the same position. I would rather run the test with a new cable, even a 40 conductor one.

for reading cmcmag's that a good test, drive passes

now take a new factory dual layer(non-arcoss/disney) dvd and rip with dvdd
to a drive that has plenty of free space

we just need to confirm a read speed of the disk

slow as hell doesn't mean a lot
