Volume label will not go away after ejection

I hope someone can help me on this. I have two internal dvd recorders. One drive has a problem and the other does not. The problem is my slave drive identifies the DVD volume label in, My Computer, as it is supposed to do and when I eject the disk the volume label does not delete and return to the device name. My other drive an HP DVD Writer 640b, operates normally and the DVD volume label disappears and returns to the device name after I eject. I have gone on Microsoft and HP web sites and numerous forums and the only thing I came up with is:
1.to uninstall the drive and reinstall at startup.
2.to reinstall the removable storage drive snap-in.
These solutions did not fix my problem. I do not have a problem putting another disk in the drive, as it will change the volume label to the new one, but I have the same problem again. This problem just started recently after I installed a new drive HP DVD Writer 840d in this bay, built July 2006. the firmware is also up to date. I also ran a register scan before this happened and the only thing it removed were a 6 old program files. I have had this drive for about 30 days and it works good.
A note: a problem that came up before this happened, and I got fixed, was my computer would not identify my 2 external hard drives.I got it fixed when I ran a scandisk . I am not a computer wiz, sort of retired and I am learning how to fix things my self, I hope with a little help from the great folks in this Forum, I can. Thanks

not to worry about, as long as it responds to a new disk you should be fine, mine do it all the time, never a problem

      Thanks Chewy
      I can do that.
I am going to install a new drive drive to replace my HP 640b. It will be an LG DVD Writer GSA-H10L. Thanks again.

I think that why they call is windoze, I sure can't explain or even predict it, unless it's the sony rootkit clan trying to take over my computer. Might have to freeze the little gremlins with compressed air?

Does it change back to normal on a restart? Mine does.

            Chewy,

I agree on Windoze. I have plenty of compressed air.

            Soup,

The volume label does change back to the device label upon startup.

I guess I am not the only one who has these gremlins. If I find a solution I will pass it on.

My system (when it was working) would do that sometimes, but I was able to reduce the frequency by right-clicking My Computer, selecting (Computer) Management/Storage/Removeable Storage/Libraries, right-click the problem drive, Properties, General tab, & reduce the Deferred Dismounts "Retain dismountable media for XX minutes" to zero.

Sometimes it helps - sometimes it doesn't.

                To Steve83

I reinstalled the removable storage snap-in again and did a system restore and the volume label now changes back to the device name now as it is supposed to do. I'm not sure if it was the snap-in reinstall or the system restore that got the drive label to work again. Maybe the system restore added in some missing file or process. I'm not sure, because the system restore was only from 2 days ago. As Chewy said, "some people call it Windoze" for sure.
                To Chewy, Soup and Steve83,
I think you all helped me figure it out or windoze did itself, I am not sure.
