Can't remove address bar entry from I.E.

My son frequents gaming forums where they exchange humourous stuff, pranks, etc. One of these pranks is to enter the word "officially" into a google search.

EDIT: This is not a "prank", but rather a configuration problem with my system settings!

    WARNING: Don't do it!!!

He did it, & now whatever I try, I cannot remove that entry from the I.E. address bar. Every time I type in a google address, or anything with a "G", that entry appears in the dropdown list. I erased all temp/history/autocomplete/ everything. Also ran CCleaner, & it is still there. Any ideas on how to rid this entry, other than a sys. restore?

    thanks, katz

Click Tools --> Internet Options --> Content --> Auto Complete

    There are three options
    -Web Address
    -Forms
-User names and passwords on forms

The "Web Addresses" checkbox is the one that stores typed URLs.

    - no history, no addresses, safe browsing

    and then clear history

      chewy,

thanks for the info. on that; however, I believe I fixed the problem myself on this one. After I had run ccleaner, the entry was still showing, even after closing out i.e. & opening it again.

But, after I rebooted the pc & opened i.e., it was then gone.
I like to leave the autocomplete on, as it is easy to just type the name of a website & hit ctrl/enter & have all the full address fill in on its' own.

With autocomplete turned off, I don't believe it will fill in the "http://www.com" part.

      thanks for your assistance!

        Take it out of history.

The www. com is added by Ctrl-Enter. There's a reg entry called quick complete. (you can change it to anything you like actually - mine ends in .com. au)

        HKCU/Software/Microsoft/IE/Toolbar/QuickComplete

        String entry called QuickComplete:
        Code:
        http://www.%s.com.au

          Thanks blu.
I was looking in the reg. before I started this thread, but I couldn't find the proper entry. That is good to know!

This problem came back again! I have tried everything to remove a google search entry, & it will not work.

@blutach; I checked the registry, & following the string that you posted, I do not have a "QuickComplete" under toolbar.

            Mine has;

            Explorer
            Shell Browser
            Webrowser

            TypedURLs
            URLSearchHooks
There are entries of www. under TypedURLs, but none of them are the google search.

            Any ideas?

                    Hey Chewy
I really want to know why searching for the word "officially" can raise so much havoc. I would search for it but I don't want to get my machine all screwed up. Can you add any incite as to why this happens?

                      Abuilder,

I probably should edit my first post; I don't think it has anything to do with the word "officially". That is the word that was stuck in the google search string & wouldn't leave.

Right now, I have a song that I was searching for the lyrics to that is stuck in there. Most likely something more to do with my system configuration, rather than a certain word.

I'm off to edit the first post now...

                      Regards, katz

Only other one that I see is from PCPitstop; I haven't used that site in a very long time, but the entry is still hanging around.

Everything else is Msoft/Adobe/Sun, etc. (the good guys)
