I feel your pain my son used to go to some scooby doo site and cartoon network all the time and of course the a few other kid sites and they are so loaded with crap and pop ups he downloaded a virus that wiped his pc and mine out in 30 minutes.

My son hasnt had his computer now for over 6 months.

One of these days I will let him know that it is hooked up and let him use it.

Yeah, I hear you! Some of those "safe" sites are the worst!!!

I ran trendmicro scans, it found a 1/2 dozen things wrong; I deleted them, rebooted the pc & still have the google entry in the address bar. Also ran spybot & ad aware, they found nothing related to this problem.

I find it hard to believe that I am the only one that is having this problem, but then again, my son has several games installed on this pc that are very internet intensive with chat/etc., so I guess anything is possible.

I do that all the time

Is it a surprise I had to reformat about 8 times now?

Although now I am smart, I go to risky sites under virtual PC so I can just delete the virtual hard drive

Nope, no extra toolbars are installed at all.

Seeing you son uses sites that can be P2P in nature maybe you should check you network setting to see if file and printer shareing is turned on and if so, turn it off.

                          Yes..well sort of...
After I remove the history, cookies, temp files, auto complete, etc., it still shows up in the address bar. But after a couple of days of continually deleting all that stuff, the entry goes away on its' own.

I really can't figure it out why it doesn't clear from the address bar right away - I guess someone on here probably knows the answer, but it's sure not me

I would then try highjackthis, it sounds like it has put an entry into your registry.

I have used Spybot & Ad aware, ran a trendmicro scan, and also hijackthis.

I see no entries that look as if they would be causing a problem.
