System: ASUS P5WD2 Premium mb; Intel Pentium D 830 CPU @ 3.15 GHz; 2 GB RAM; Windows XP Pro SP2 updated to present; Sony DRU-710A DVD+/-RW and Samsung SM-308B CD-RW/DVD read; various HDD and other stuff.
My Sony DRU-710A (Firmware BYX5) has suddenly (within the last month) stopped detecting the presence of any commercial movie DVD disc. It otherwise works normally with: music CDs, data CD or DVD, or Movie DVD burned with RipIt4Me/DVD Schrink. I tried one DVD WITHOUT region protection, but WITH CSS/CPM copy protection, and the system will detect and access it ok.
Nero InfoTool accesses drive information ok.
This DVD+/-RW had long ago been made region free with LtnRPC.exe, and has always worked ok; I reset it just now to Region 1; but it still won't detect any commercial movie DVD. Drive is now set to Region 1.
Uninstalled and reinstalled Sony DVD drive in Win XP; still won't see movie DVDs.
Recently updated and installed on this computer are Daemon Tools v. 4.08HE with SPTD 1.37; and RipIt4Me v. 1.6.0.0. I also have these same versions installed on a laptop, which is having NO problem playing movie DVD's. The laptop has Win XP Pro SP2 also.
It seems like this problem is related to region protected DVDs; but I can't be sure of that.
I would be very thankful for any help on solving this problem!
