Hello again,
I got some great info yesterday, that helped me(hopefully)fix a problem, so I figured I'd try again.
I was away from my computer for about 5 months. It was used very rarely in that time. My free subscription to Norton ran out in that time frame, so I had nothing blocking viruses, or anthing of that nature for at least 3 of those 5 months.
When I came home, the 1st thing I noticed, was my background picture wasnt showing up.
I clicked on properties, to try and change it, but it's locked somehow. I used to be able to scroll through a series of preloaded pics, along with whatever I had resently copied to my background, but now it wont let me scroll through those at all. The only thing it'll let me do under the "properties", "desktop" section, is change the color???
I tried copying a new pic to my background, and still nothing.
What's weird, is when I log off, and shut down the computer the background pic shows up for a split second. Same thing happens when I first log in. It'll show the pic, but none of my icons show up. Then it'll click to a blue background, and THEN all the icons show.
I've tried Mcaffee, and windows defender, to try and find/fix something, but I've had no luck. Someone suggested I start in safe mode, and run either of them there, and still nothing.
What can I do to try and fix this problem?
BTW, my computer is a Gateway 510 desktop, and I'm running Windows XP home edition.
I'll find any other info, if need be.
Thanks in advance.
Derrick
