Windows had to do it!

The last day of the year & Windows had to do it to me. I honestly don't know how long it had f'ed me up but I was doing some end of the year maintenance & there's a couple of functions I hadn't used in Systemsuite for a while, (Disk Fixer & Cleanup), so I go to start them up & I get this.



So after numerous attempts at fixing the problem, System Restore, etc & I will admit hours of research, I finally remembered about the problems with the last IE7 update. Eureka, uninstall IE7 & the problem goes away, reinstall IE7 because Windows wants you updated, problem returns. So Windows you can take your IE7 (which had never caused me a problem all the way through the beta phase) & shove it where the sun don't shine. I was going to post this in the rants but decided to post it here just in case there is somebody else has problems.

I just had to get that off my chest before the new year here. So now I would like to wish everybody a happy new year.

I have seen many bad posts about IE7, so I will not be updating anytime soon! I would like to go back to using Firefox, but after losing my bookmarks for me & were not recoverable, that turned me off to that browser...

i had that problem with the RC1 beta version.
but no problems with the final version.

It wasn't so much IE7 but the latest update from Windows on it. It is pretty easy to remove through Control Panel Add/Remove but then you are in a constant fight with Windows because it wants to download it. All this found out through trial & error.

@ katzdvd, BR7 posted about an add-on for Firefox called FEBE (Firefox Extension Backup), you should check it out.

@ UncasMS, system is okay, it was just a lot of screwing around with the trial & error part, restarting all ther time, trying to find out what was causing it. It just made a couple of things in certain programs that I use not work, didn't affect the whole system.

@katz: never happened to me with a few years of firefox, but it's always given you the option to export/import all your favourites to a single html page. i export it every month or so, just to be safe

never had any problems with IE7 here

@soup - Thanks for the heads up and sorry to hear about your troubles . I'm still at IE6 and will probably stay with it until IE7 SP 1 or 2 comes out

for over a year now, my main computer has been running better and smoother
than I can remember any other box I have had since 97. I didn't put it on the internet for 3 months, decided to throw in the towel with nortons and spybot, Just got along with a clean install of windows xp sp2. Only ms upgrade I have done is to media player 10. Did install nortons 2003 the other day and only installed def files update to scan a suspicious file.

10/23/05 was the date of my install

I have tested all the online scans, individual files are another matter

trojan installers rarely show up for several weeks until they become common enough in the wild to be put in the definition data base.

problem with any online scan is that a trojan is connected to it's update web site while you are doing the scan

besides who needs a trojan when you have IE7 and windows updates
