Theres a Ghost in my computer !

My desktop seems to have a mind of its own! The mouse will just roam around and open new programs all on its own !!! First I tried disconnecting power and that didnt work. Then ran a virus scan which returned no virus and that didnt work. Then ran another virus in safe mode which also returned no virus and that didnt work either. So I have ran out of options !

Anyone had or heard of a problem like this ?

Are you connected to the internet when you are having this problem. It is possible that your computer is being hijacked?

yes I am connected all the time. however its just opening so dumb stuff like cd burning progs and stuff. How can I stop that if it is the case

As a test, you could disconnect from the internet for awhile; If the problems cease, it may be as the Dr. suggested.

You could try running; Spybot/Adaware/Hijackthis to see if everything comes up clean.

I would disconnect your internet and turn the computer on and see if you still have random programs opening up if they do then something has hijacked your computer.

i really dont think that it is being hijacked it hasnt done it in several hours now and it just does it every so often i will come hope and like 5 programs are opened.

what is the best free program to get for detecting a hijacker.

Just so he gets it fixed; that kind of stuff can be hard to cure, but there's always a reformat down the road!

o no i am really not wanting to do a reformat way to much stuff on my pc right now !

There use to be a program that I use to play with, that was attached to AIM and would run in the background unnoticed. It allowed me to control people's computers and I could open any programs or anything else I wanted to do. Since I knew the people I was messing with I never did any thing destructive but it was possible.

a mouse going crazy can do this, back in the days of w95 or early 98 I had one go bonkers on me and I had to reinstall the OS after I changed the mouse

so what is the suggested plan of action here ? I have a feeling it is just this cheap ass mouse it has been moving on its own for awhile but just recently started opening up programs.

I seem to remember something about accessability, ( voice ) in XP if turned on could cause the mouse pointer to move, even if you did not have a mic attached? Could it be something like this or does it just affect certain programs?
