I have to agree with Danny to a point. Last quarter my 11 yr old brought home 2 B's and 4 A's. I took away his Gameboy, PS2. and PC during the week, and he could play as much as he wanted on the weekends. (you need to know that this kid is really bright)
This quarter he brought home 4 B's and 2 A's. I just want to scream! Is he doing this on purpose? Do I give him the games back? And if I do, will his grades go back up?
But Danny you have to remember, you basically have two jobs at this age. Respect your parents and get good grades. If you do that, they will let you back on the PC.
PS - have you tried Walmart or Target? They both could use knowledgeable computer staff!Comment

But I don't think they hire at 16.
And that's the problem with my parents... I get 99%iles on the standardized tests, I got a really high score on the ACT, etc... but then I had some B's.
What they don't get is classes like math are hard for me... sad part is that you have to be good at math to be an engineer (or even programmer).
But not that crap about imaginary numbers, and stuff... who needs to know that?!
And my parents did take away my Gameboy too, and never gave it back... kids at school now hate my parents because I used to let them play it during class LOL
Plus, I do try to get good grades... I kinda slacked off in Spanish, but other than that I do try... my teachers all say I'm lazy, I go around saying that... but I do my homework and stuff. (So what if my catchphrase is "hard work never hurt anyone but I'm still not gonna risk it" )
They all said I try to take the easy way out... but if it works... isn't that what everyone does?
And I do respect my parents too... I've had lengthy conversations with them and then the instant I bring up computers the go back to being mean about it. Heck, the other day my parents asked if I had a crush on anyone and I was like "that's not the sort of thing I want to answer!" LOLCYA Later:

Don't bring up the PC, let them do it. Ask them if you can do chores or something to gain time on the PC rather than get paid. Show them they could benefit this way. Good Luck!Comment

Well, in 3 yrs you'll be on your own and can compute all you want. In the meantime, just remember those two rules. I have beaten (not literally) them into my son.Comment

My son got docked from an A to a B in SS just because his teacher though his handwriting was poor.
I dont think thats fair not everyone has good hand writing, let face it I never saw a Doctor that could write any thing that anyone could actually read.
some teachers are just a bit nuts too and dont always grade fair. You have to get to know the teachers a bit to know why in some cases. There is also the possiblity that the next quarter was a lot tougher then the first and grades can drop just in that alone.
I found that with my son offering $$$ Cash for Grades my son does pretty good.
Here is the deal I work:
A = $10.00
B = $5.00
C = -$5.00 (I take away $5.00 for each C)
D = - $10.00 ( I take away $10.00 for each D)
F = NO MONEY at all for the whole report card no matter how many other A's
( Art, GYM and Music I dont count, my son isnt a natural born artist and the music teacher is nuts and so is the gym teacher.)
Thats working here though.Comment

I know what you mean about teachers! My son brings home A's in SS, but he still gets a B on his report card!
I don't pay him for good grades, but I do take him down to Best Buy where I will buy him a game. He is waiting for the new Pokemon game right nowComment

I think more so the fact that he can loose money gets him even more then the thought of getting money.
So for me I think I will keep the pay scale all the way through High school.
P.S.
I dont give an allowance of any kind so his report card is his only way right now to make his own money.Comment

@Derree - we must have went to the same high school!
@P.A. - mine does get an allowance, but he works for it. Garbage, helping Dad with the lawn, picking up after the dogs... Getting a game bought for him is a treat because he doesn't have to spend his moneyLast edited by Kabuchan; 16 Feb 2007, 06:34 AM.Comment

Yeah, but let's put it this way... I have friends for the first time in my life, I'm willing to risk a little bit school-wise for that.CYA Later:
