Why Do Some DVD Players Refuse To Play DVDs?

I've mentioned something about this before but I have more to say. Why is it some or most created DVDs of mine refuse to play properly in one of my DVD players all of a sudden?

I've tried different media, different disc brands, I convert AVI to the DVD files without using my PC at the same time to avoid corruptions and I compress with the DVD Shrink to create an ISO Image File without using my PC at the same time to avoid corruptions and I burn with IMGBurn. When I put a DVD on play that I've created, they either pause themselves while the counter display still tells me the track number, chapter number and the counter is still on (but it never says Pause as if I paused it) and the DVDs break-up with squares when the other fault occurs. This is doing my head in because this was only happening about 10% of the time ages ago and out of the blue it's doing it about 90% of the time now. I'm sick of these DVD faults wasting my time. I had a lot of this before and I was using a different DVD burner and when I bought a new one things were fine again. My DVD burner can't be the cause because I've only had it for about four or five months and the Firmware is up-to-date. The DVDs play OK in my other DVD players and recorders so why does one of them keep messing about? That DVD player plays pre-recorded DVDs and TV recordings on DVD OK.

When I burn off another copy and try that it does the same thing in the same part of the DVD. One title can pause or break-up halfway through a DVD, another title can do one of them near the end and other can do it at the beginning. I just created a DVD and it was only playing for 47 seconds and it paused itself.

I have been having the same problems for about the last month. I use Ripit4me and imgburn all current. dvd's will play in all players except my sanyo dvw-7000. Recent movies with problems Grudge 2, Running with scissors, tenacious D, to name a few. It's very frustrating.

This is a great forum by the way. I don't know what I would have done without this place. Thank you.

By the way, I have the up-to-date version of IMGBurn and my G-drive is now NTFS so it does support ISO Image Files.

I understand exactly what you mean. Another annoying thing is some DVD players and some DVD recorders can only play Region 0 in colour and some in black-and-white. When they play in black-and-white the picture quality also goes a bit fuzzy so we can't even get way with a black-and-white film. I have five DVD machines, two DVD players, two DVD recorders and my X-Box 360 and one of my DVD recorders plays Region 0 in black-and-white and I've known others to do the same elsewhere. That can be annoying for people that only have one machine and all colour DVDs lacks the colour.

You might think about slowing down your burn speed.
Then if you get a little lower Q disk it should help. IMO

I've had a few backups not play on my players..soo, I'll try DVDRB instead and usually it works for me... just my 2cents again!.....

Many thanks for that help. I was close to there but I didn't want to chance it because I didn't want to make matters worse because I don't normally go in those settings and before I never knew the four-digit number, neither. I've changed it now. I hope it works.

The 4400 is from Chewy, I had to ask too.

And burn slower. It does not add much time to the Burn.

Welcome to my world, my Toshiba isnt playing anything new very well either.

While the same back ups play just fine on some other player and not on picky ones toshibas are known to be a lot more picky then most I have been seeing more and more posts though of other players not wanting to play right.


Some want to blame media, some want to blame burners or burn speeds and in some cases that may hold true.

but when you using a awesome burner and TYG02 discs and quality scans are all 97 to 99 well its the players.

Some just dont want to play the new stuff. I am getting rid of my toshiba and going with somthing that will play everything.

But there was someone that made a good point when it comes to stand alone players and that is there is no firmware updates for stand alone players at least not for most of them. Media keeps changing and more important the copy encryptions keep changing on us all the time. It seems that its getting to the point of having to buy a new player ever few months just to be able to keep playing the back ups.

I personally think these players are made to fail out at some point just so we have to go out and buy a new one even though the one we have is just fine for older movies.

Trust me I feel your pain much more then you know.
