Works great with XP don't know about Vista. Been using for years on this XP machine. Does everything you would need.

Windows (at least XP) has a built in ZIP compatibility... it can both extract and make ZIPs on its own.
For everything else (RAR, etc), I use WinRAR. It's shareware, but never does anything once it expires so it's basically freewareCYA Later:

A poor, not to mention inconvenient implementation though.
Say I download a ZIP file off a website. I just right click and say "extract all". Works fine for me. If you just want a bunch of small files in a ZIP, for say uploading, it will do that too if you say "send to ZIP file". It doesn't compress well but I didn't think that was the questionCYA Later:
