Intel dropped the price of it's popular core 2 duo E6600 25%, AMD has been dropping their prices to stay in the game.

below 100$ amd is still the best bet

single or dual core

at 135$
you can get an amd x2 4800 or an intel E4300

around 170$
X2 5200 or E6300

at 200$
X2 5600 or E6400

around 235-240$
X2 6000 or the E6600

I know my 150$ amd64 single core 3000 has taken a huge depreciation in the last 18 months

I can buy a new 3400 for 51$

an X2 3800 for 90$

@Chewy - the 22nd is approaching fast (I heard the date of the price drops) keep us posted. I ain't moved the 4000+ to the Ultra case yet but when I do I got the Sawzalled Gateway box and the Antec box too. I'm thinking dual core this time for F@H

Hey guys, once these CPU prices bottom out, (which seems to be now or close) how long you suppose they will be available?

I know if I wait too long they will be gone and I will be forced to spend lots of money on all the new CPU's or grow old waiting for them to plunge,lol.

I would be very surprised if prices go back up in the next few months, older
style cpu's for upgrades are staying higher(old mobos don't support newer cpu's)

Intel is intent upon keeping it's market share strong and Amd is counter attacking the core 2 duo with rock bottom prices

Intel still can't sell off it's huge stock of P4's

Whoa Chewy ya got me reaching form the credit card! The Biostar tforce 550 MOBO has SATA II also, decent mobo I guess huh??

Thanks for the info chewy. My main problem is the older mobo, like you said I can't just throw a newer better CPU in it.

That's why I will wait to put together a new system entirely. But I might get a CPU a bit early if the prices are bottomed out.

actually i would NOT go for that asus => 2 ram slots doesnt make it a decent board at all!

Can't I start with a 1GB stick and add another later? Or more than 2GB needed?
