lessons learned:

ebay is not someplace to buy computer parts, especially if the seller won't warranty

top of the line burners only come along so often, stock up

many people swear by that sony drive, but you can always get a lemon with any line of drives

you have to go to compusa and hunt for them

any other stores i don't have compusa near me I have office max,staples,circuit city

I order 1655 from new egg (2) but the other one I had to drive 4 hours to get to the nearest Compusa to get them, you may also search for lighton or sony 810 ( I dont remember which could be either benq40/50) at walmart I had seen one but the out side box was mess up so I did not pick it. Chewy and other may know more about it

ok I have spent most of my workday looking for a benq 1655 then after giving up i reag numerous reviews and comparisons on the internet . Now if you guys would please give me some input besides benq what would be next best (available) burner i need it to burn dl and dvd-rom booktype?

pioneer burn dl very well but you have to crossflash to buffalo firmware
for bitsetting dvd+r sl

the samsung's or liteon's would be my choice if I couldn't get a benq 1640/5x
