trying to build my first pc but for the most part this stuff is beyond me right now i looked up what i thought was good quality

Well, there is some great instruction avail. on here for your first build. Look in the General Computing section of the forum for some good threads, & to get a feel for what you want to do.

Not saying you didn't pick nice components, but if you are on a budget, you wanna make sure to get the most bang for your buck! This one I just assembled cost me approx. $600, not including the burners & a new monitor.

I am very pleased with the performance, but of course could have easily spent more for a faster box.

It's hard to justify spending a grand on a new computer if you are on a budget. Just on the cost of hardware I try to steer clients into the 5-700$ range, using components priced at the "sweet spot". If you need the "latest and greatest" and can afford a huge depreciation in the first 2 years, by all means spend a lot more. Video cards and cpu's are the worst components for being overpriced. A 300-400$ one will be worth less than half that in a year.

Katz I rad the entire thread on you build I think i'll stick to the mobo I wanted but I see what u guys mean with processors value it's worse than cars .I also viewed other ram I am not familiar with brands what r the best moderately priced brands and is 1gb enough ?

Sorry for back to back posts I was wondering about socket #'s on mobos the one i selected is socket 775 do they continue making processors that will fit this for years to come

Yeah, I did buy older technology, but then again, I was interested on squeezing the $$$ on this one. I am not hardcore gaming, so that didn't matter, & most of the parts I could take along to the next upgrade. As Chewy says, Ram - cas 2 better than cas 3. you get what u pay for. Most folks think 1 gb is plenty. Don't buy bargain basement stuff, I did that on an older pc I have & Chewy was mad

matching ram to the core duo 2's is a little tricky, if you don't overclock then
you only get a few percentage points from cas 4 vs cas 5, and then you have the problem of synchronization, they do better with cpu and ram running at the same fsb

to hit the higher speeds you would need very good ram

I would get a gig of good stuff if I was overclocking, 2 gigs of the cheaper

ok guys ordered my power supply first and put in my existing cpu and i had mucho probs my pc was shutting down i returned it can you guys help me i need one that has ide sata sli around 600w as cheap as possible but i don't want a real cheapo
