I have a new laptop with vista and so far have only noticed one thing. When I watch movies on it there is a twitch on the screen. It usually happens between scenes of the movie. I have enjoyed vista so far I would just like to know why this happens and can it be fixed?

Click on the Start Menu, enter SystemPropertiesPerformance and hit Enter.
You'll get a bunch of user interface settings. The first one(animate controls inside
windows) I noticed caused flickering progress bars in a lot of apps so unchecking
that helped. Don't know about video. But you can mess around and see what
happens. Just note the original settings so you can put stuff back. It's easy
to forget which checkbox was what after playing around for a couple of minutes.
Does anyone know the recommended procedure to get rid of mobsync.exe
in Vista? I can't find anything pertinent on Microsoft site or in google.
It's not in any of the autostart lists so some COM DLL or other is prolly
launching it. I don't need to sync any mobs so it's a royal pain in the
ass that just thrashes the HD!! Supposedly it's related to Internet Explorer
offline browsing but disabling everything I can in IE doesn't seem to stop
it from popping up like, during defrags or other times inconvenient.
A lot of these gizmos need to have the launching dll unregistered with
regsvr32.exe to avoid errors so I don't want to just uninstall and hope
for the best.
Damn!! The thing just loaded again now!!! What a PITA!!!
Hmmmmmmm, think I'm makin' some progress... seems the Vista networking has
an "offline" option where shared folders on other network machines are cached
on the Vista machine. So mobsync keeps getting loaded to check if the files
in the shared folders have been changed. Turned this off so I hope mobsync
stays asleep from now on.... I'll watch and wait!
just got a new pc with vista and a 400gb hard drive. i wanna split the drive 80gb for windows and 320 for other stuff. but when you use the vista partitioning thing it only splits it in half. Is there something i'm missing?
right click on any partition and say expand or shrink in disk management is what I have heard works
yeh i did the shrink thing and doesnt let me do what i want. might have to split in half then split the c drive again in half so i'll have 3 drives and 100 or less for windows. or wait for partition magic vista version to come out.

Seems to me I remember Win2K Server having a similar non-thrilling disk
management utility. I had a multi-boot machine with Win2K Server and
W98 2nd ed. I did all my partition tweaks from the W98 side using Partition Magic 5.
I felt confident that I wouldn't hose my installed apps using PM.
split it in half then tried to shrink the c drive again but it wouldnt let me so i'll leave it as is for now.
Another thing. made a folder and put it on the newly made drive. went to rename the folder and it wouldnt let me...something about user controls blah blah. turned off user control now i can rename it. whats the deal?
