    Anybody here use HITACHI HD

I am thinking of getting the HITACHI Deskstar T7K250 at newegg because of the great price and the good reviews. Does anybody here use it? I would like opinions of people I trust

Damn it Wish you would have posted sooner it's already on it's way.I guess I will cross my fingers and hope for the best LOL.What I am going to do is put Windows on the new HD and then put my Linux on the 80gig drive. I went against messing with those modems I decided to shell out some money for the Sat DSL in a month or two.

@BR7 - To make ya feel a lil bit better, I got an old Gateway from 1999 from a cousin who upgraded that had an 20GB IBM Deskstar in it. The drive is still chugging along.

                  typo my arse

out of ~20 deathstars(40-60 gig pata models) over 90% died in 2 years
                  associates/friends/relatives(I was a maxtor man)

they finally changed their name to hitachi and quit honoring warranty

Manufacturer Limited Warranty period (parts): 1 year
says it all, I know it's been almost 3 years but a PO'd wookie never forgives

Other Thoughts: A little less than a year ago I configured a pair of these drives up in a mirrored RAID configuration. Recently I started to encounter write problems with both drives. Files are mysteriously becoming corrupted. I've performed a Drive Fitness Test (the Hitachi test utility) and forwarded the results to Hitachi. They have confirmed that, yes indeed, the drives are both defective. However, even with only less than one year of a three year warrantee passed, they are refusing to cover replacement. Their claim is that I am operating the drives 24/7 and that the drives are intended to be operated a maximum of 333 hours per month. 1. After shutdown, the entire system is powered off with a master switch at night. 2. Even if I was operating 24/7, I see nowhere in the product specifications nor in the warrantee, anything about a maximum duty cycle.
