I actually have tried ridding my PC of AVG and Symantec/Norton to no avail. After running the uninstallers, I just delete anything pertaining to either when I come across them.

Well, all I have to say is this:

sudo apt-get remove --purge AVG

sudo apt-get remove --purge Symantec/Norton

YMMV...

When I do finally do a new build I plan on tinkering with Linux, if not before then...I'm thinking a dual boot environment.

sudo apt-get remove norton

removes norton, but keeps your settings.

sudo apt-get remove --purge norton

completely removes norton, including config files. That is, if Linux actually needed A/V.

At work we always remove all the R0 and R1 first off. The cut and paste the rest of the report and load it on the hijackthis site. And the remove what is recommended at the site.
