    I'm not lean and mean...

As chewy, soup and I were discussing in another thread I tend to do alot of multitasking and let more run than I probably need to. So I have to post my Hijackthis log for chewy to look at. I don't have as many processes running as I claimed, but I think this is a good thing.

Also, I never really noticed but there isn't a PC security sub-forum here...that might be another idea for the site to incorporate.

I like Process Explorer in place of task manager. When I right click a process, I can also google it which gives lots of information for the program or process.

Yeah, apparently...and no I haven't checked any of the results, just ran the program. I guess I should have a look see.

I'm not Chewy but you could drop a few things like PDVDServ (IIRC for controlling PowerDVD via remote control), PicasaMediaDetector, StyleXPService (does it need to run at all times? Maybe go for a simple uxtheme.dll patch instead?)

A bunch more that you could disable/remove, like diskeeper, printscreen, kodak, all those avast services, but I don't know whether you want to keep them or not.

One thing I noticed is that is seems that you are running two anti-virus programs - Avast! and AVG. Typical practice is to run only one - multiple programs can interfere with each other sometimes, and cause other system issues. Either one should be fine - I happen to use Avast! on my main system and AVG on another, less-used, system.

                  My 2 cents,
                  Jim

I actually have tried ridding my PC of AVG and Symantec/Norton to no avail. After running the uninstallers, I just delete anything pertaining to either when I come across them. The only thing I'm running right now is Avast, Zone Alarm, Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware SE.

You have HiJackThis now, use it to get rid of that stuff.

                            Ahh, fair enough, then.

'Course, now I'm gonna have to check my machine, as I recall having AVG installed before moving to Avast! - a quick 5-minute task that's most likely going to turn into a multi-hour project. Swell.

Let's not do anything drastic now....I don't even know where my XP disc is so I don't know if a format is in the cards. I wish I had the time and money to start a build from the ground up, but I've got other things I'm trying to accomplish right now...

                              To Do List:
                              1. Pour concrete pad for patio in backyard
                              2. Gut and remodel bathroom
                              3. Finish laying Hardwood Floor in living room
                              4. CAI and numerous other mods for truck
a quick 5-minute task that's most likely going to turn into a multi-hour project.
That is why I didn't go all the way through with HiJack This...I got about 3 deep and my PC rebooted on me, I just really didn't have the patience to go through that another handful of times if it became a common occurance.

                              @soup

My HiJack This GUI didn't look anything like yours...I guess I'm going to have to play around with it some more.
