what happened to DVD burners have I been away that long?

    Hello everyone,
It has been a long while since I have posted.
It feels as though I have been away for a lifetime here.

I was on newegg to buy a new dvd burner and I am 100% LOST!

NONE of the old brand names are for sale any more.

What are some of the best burners that are out there now?

What are some of your favorites and why please?

Looking to burn a lot of home video from my sons tornements.

    Thanks,

I see there is no NEC but there is a Sony Nec is that the same?

it's all topsy turvy every year as burners and companies change

for pata drives(stay away from sata)

the LG and samsung with free shipping should be the best deals

    today!

      Good morning Chew,
Which models whould you recomend for the highest quality in burning to DVD-R and dual layers?
There seem to be many to choose from and I know how picky you are when it comes to quality of burn.
      Thanks

as an all round burner I would have to go with the pata samsung, probably got most others beat with durability, future codeguys support?, it's ability to scan

it's bigger brother the sata version is the runaway hottest item out

ready to start babying that benq or did you already kill it?

the ben q is still working for now but I want to put a burner in my sons pc I found that nec I never installed too now that have been moving I found the lost box with that nec I got when I got the benq.

(Back when I bought them I never got the time to install it in my sons pc) then couldnt find the box.

I am going to be adding a new 3rd pc to the net work though I just sold that old peice of crap celeron with windows 98 so looking to add a new 3rd. In need of a new burner and who knows how much longer my benq will survive I burned a lot with it.

                  i have always used
                  Lite-On
                  Plextor
                  Sony
                  Pioneer
                  with no issues
                  My latest is a LG
Browse LG's wide range of CD, DVD and Blu-Ray external drives and burners. Protect important files and secure your memories with backup solutions from LG.

Which I havent fully tested but so far with the burns i have done i havent had a problem or noticed it running slower than normal
nor have I played with the Lightscribe but I wanted to try it, as my Epson r200 printer that printed on DVDs died in my flood

My LH-20A1-H has been terrific .I have about 1500 dvd's burned and as far as Dual layer, don't know if this helps but I have 63 xbox-360 burns which I believe not having 1 coaster is a testament to the burner (and of course Verbatim blanks)

oh i forgot to mention, like Chewy said stay away from SATA burners too many issues with em so far, i wont touch em yet, either

Which is pain with my mobo, MSI K9N Diamond which only has one PATA port

so its limiting me to 1 burner, altho i really dont need more than one, and yes I know technically I can have 2, I hate running 2 on the same PATA slot

Not to change the thread too much but I think I'm in the market for a new drive. With this forum's advice I bought a Lite-On 165 and the backups I make skip a lot on my main 2 players. I back up a lot of kids movies because we watch them in the car. Sooooo, long story short.....

they usually test out in the 90-95 range so they are good burns. btw, with your advice also, I'm using TYG-02's. Will I have the same thing happen if I buy a LG or Samsung? Maybe I should switch back to Verbatims???

try cleaning the dvd players, any burns that test that high are fine

The player in the car is brand new. Is there any particular software to use?
