      Thanks chewy,
I will take a closer look at that link later tonight. The other problem is that is the pc I cant get to boot up in safe mode, I have tried with no luck. If you remember back about a year ago I had a different problem where I needed to boot up in safe mode and couldnt it wouldnt. What are the tricks to that?

        most can do this

To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".
or see smoky's sticky in this forum

the f8 never worked with this pc. I will look for that sticky thanks

I am not seeing anything in that sticky that will help and this:
Running System Restore in Safe Mode to Recover a Non-booting System
If you have System Restore enabled on your system, you may still run into problems with software or bad drivers. If your Windows XP installation will not boot normally, how do you get to your restore points? You can go to the most recent restore point by using the “last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked)” option in the Windows advanced options menu, but if that does not fix your problem, use Safe Mode. Note that you cannot create restore points in safe mode; only load them.
Is not an option for me for reasons I cant mention.

            Alternate:

From the Windows Start menu, click Run.

In the Open field, type MSCONFIG and click Ok.

On the BOOT.INI tab, check /SAFEBOOT.

            Click Restart when prompted.

leave it set this way until you get the problem fixed

one bad thing that could happen is if the trojan is attached to a windows system file, dont rely on Norton to clean it for you, just use norton to idenitfy it, and then repost the name of it and we can point you to the proper ways to remove it incase you need to replace the system file

try a couple of online scans as well
