Smaller PDF files

Hi, I am looking for freeware (or not to expensive priced shareware) program that allows file conversion to PDF format. The program that comes with my scanner creates huge sized PDF file, which is unsuitable for emailing. If there is another solution, Id love to hear about it.

Adobe Acrobat Professional at least has a File --> Reduce File Size option. Perhaps your PDFmaker has this, too?

what exactly do you scan?

in case we're talking about pictures i personally would not consider PDF an option unless you create a document containing pictures AND text.
otherwise you better save to a decent compression format like JPG and dont turn a picture into a pdf.

should you deal with text AND graphics then a very good and complete freeware solution would be OpenOffice.
import your graphic files, add your text and use the internal PDF writer to output to pdf.

what i think could be the problem in your case when scanning and trying to save to a rather compressed pdf is the resolution with which you scan.


could you provide us some details on your workflow?
