Nvidia Reports Problem With Laptop Chips

Hi atifsh,

I want to get me a T8100 with Intel Onboard Graphic ... that is all I need ... but when I put it together let's say HP (which supposedly gives you a deal) or others ... I still come to $1050 + Taxes comes up to $1150 ... so then it burns me to see for $150 more my Compal is 100 times better hand down if I didn't have this darn NVIDIA crappy chip with Heat Cycle problem.

I have Superior "Chi Mei N154Z1-L02" WSXGA+ glossy monitor that is to die for. I have a T9300 that smokes away, I have 4GB RAM, a solid notebook that I can get to the parts I want from the back of it.

So, with all that I am going like ... what the heck should I do ... should I just chance it ...

I also found out when the processor is under the LOAD ... like runnign MediaCoder for a full DVD transcode the fan run and therefore my GPU temperature readings are like 64C/147F ... which is not bad at all. I get my WORST Temp readings when the darn laptop is idle or doing normal laptop stuff ... like running excel, Media Player and crap like that ... then I am reading 77C/171F.

I called the manufacturer ... and their Tech says DO NTO worry about those Temps on GPU ... you have nothing to worry about until GPU starts reading 90C.

So, decisions, decisons ...

Actually I LOVE Fujitsu Lifebook A6120 with T8100 ... but the darn thing runs $1150 + Tax = $1250.

yes you should, use it till u seriously gets into trouble, or if u get into any trouble hope its in the warrenty period.
by the way asfar i know u can remove the faulty card later if anything happens and ull be on integrated anyway.

THANKS for answering my Q. Also, appreciate the Pointer on if the darn NVIDIA 8600GT goes out I can take it out and Intel onboard will take over, that is nice to know ... more peace of mind.

@ doctorhardware, that would be at the tune another $140 ... I guess I have to pay for NVIDIA's screw up.

@ atifsh, do you know if the new NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT card has the same Heat Problem as the 8400 and 8600 series card? BTW, my 8600M GT in IDLE mode now is topping off 80C ... go figure.

It is unfortunate that Nvida let this go as long as they have. Maybe some one should start a class action law suite against Nvida. Like the one against Compaq. Compaq is being sued for defective video chips on there laptop, don't remember which one.

download this and in temperature tab look whats ur fan boost, try changing it to lower num. dont change anything else. may or maynot work.

try if ur compal have new drivers posted try those.
else get ur laptop back and ask them to fix it with new thermal paste. should work then.

also see if u r doing overclocking to ur 8600m GT.

I was lucky that I was surfing the Forums on laptops and actually saw YOUR Original post on this subject that saved my bacon ... and I started googling and looking things up, and taking Temps ... otherwise I would have been SOL'ed ...

Luckily I was under my 2 weeks grace period and I return the unit for Credit.

@ atifsh ... I tried going to the website that you have provided ... and my computer says "Anti-Leach" is on ... what the heck is that all about.

Oh, btw, just for my curiosity ... when you lower your number what happens to the fan ... does it start at a EARLIER time so it can cool down the lappy.

The problem was that as long as I was not running a CPU intensive job the darn FAN would not come on and my GPU would just sit there and cook ... would you believe if I told you when I first turned on my laptop (Win XP SP2) ... I would start the HWMonitor 1.10 program to monitor the Temps second by second ... well my GPU at boot up was at 50C and in matter of less than 10 or 15 minutes would climb up to 83-85C and modulate between 73 to 84C all day long in IDLE mode.

I fixed that with my 6" Persoanl Fan that I bought at WalMart on sale for about $7 ... I raised the back of my laptop with 1/2" inch wood trim and I an earser about 5/8" thick in the front of laptop smack in the center to elevate the front and I blew Air with the fan on HIGH spered (2 speeds) from fron toward back and in about 5 or 10 minutes my GPU Temp would fall from 75C to 58-60C ...

But I really did not want to go thru this balony every time and yes what would I do when I travel ... take my fancy piece of wood strip and my 6" clunky personal fan with me ... and I wonder if they would fit in my laptop bag.

open program ....> click submit bios ...> ok ...> cancle....
it will load ur bios info now goto temp tab and see whats ur fan boost is at.
