I would like to put a label on dvds,but want to get away from paper labels.Thinking of "Lightscribe" dvd writer. anybody have one they would recomend.Or for that matter any to steer clear of.

There's a bunch out there w/the lightscribe feature. You'll need the software and I think but not sure their disks. Hp usually markets their pcs w/lightscribe but I'm not to keen w/hp.

I have a samsung that is lightscribe, the best lightscribe disks are the verbatium disks. I use nothing else.

I know this isn't strictly what you've asked for but have you considered one of those photo printers that prints directly on to normal printable discs in full colour?

I second what Wombler has said

I have been using the white disks for years, much cheaper than lightscribe software and disks

Typical disk printers Epson R220 and up. And, if you refill your own ink tanks its much cheaper.



Lightscribe software came with my LG blu-ray burner GBW-H20L and I don't use it, just burn the blu-ray structure to white label DVD+R DL, and print with the Epson R220.

Consider a sharpie marker - cheap, effective and is never a hassle.

I use the ultra fine point sharpies, to write on the disks.

I don't label them at all....I just pick a random disc....oh the anticipation (and if I happen to pick one I don't like, I just randomly pick a different one lol)

Seriously, I too just use a Sharpie.........thick, thin, fat, skinny, black, blue...it doesn't matter to me

For me I like the ultra fine, the title is better than when I use the fat marker. I can't read the label when I use the fat sharpie marker.

I've been using these>staedtler lumocolor permanent cd/dvd markers. came 4 in a pack. red, blue, green and black.

Those sharpies aren't too strong that they'll seep through the cd/dvds right? Haven't used them yet. Probably could get them cheaper also.

@Ed. Which white discs you use? Tys most likely huh?

I have not had any problems with the sharpies, leeching into the plastic of the disks.

Stockpile of blank media is very low, the only white labels left according to Imgburn are CMC MAG-M01-00 burn rate at 16X and they are DVD+R (DVD-5)

Ed you implying that white labels might be on the way out for all blank discs or just low for certain brands? Didn't catch this.

They also have these in +R media. Stick with Taiyo Yuden, in my opinion they're the best.

Here's the printer I just ordered, my old one finally gave out. Sorry it just came off sale for $119. I was able to get mine for $110, because Epson has a loyalty program for past owners of Epson printers. I also told them that I had a set of six inks left over from my old printer. So there going to give me a set of six for this new printer for free.

If you do decide to go this route be sure to buy a printer with six colors. You be amazed how great the disk come out looking.

Note you will have to spray the disk with a clear acrylic sealer after you have printed. Such as Patricia Nimocks available from Wal-Mart. This will give your finished product a nice glossy finish and will make smudge proof.

Also note if you want to print directly to disk, that there are a lot more expenses than using a sharpie. The blanks are more costly than regular media. The printer and it's ink and the clear acrylic spray. Not to mention your time. Though for me it's well worth it.

So either print them or use a sharpie, but never stick a label on them.
