    @Ipaulo

I use two primary registry cleaners one freeware and the other payware.
And in my book they both work great for me, I can see a difference in performance.

    registryfix7
    JV16 power tools (older version)

Places where AVG can hide if you are doing a complete removal.

    control panel/administrative tools folder
    C:/windows/prefetch

AVG is very hard to totally remove from your computer. Hijack this software program can also help in removing part of AVG. Be sure you set up your computer to SHOW ALL HIDDEN FILES before you remove AVG too.
Its in the registry, hard drive, temp files, start-up files, tools files.

              Hi folks,

For those interested here is what I am running on my latop and I have VISTA Home Perm 64-bit ...

Avira Free + Comodo Firewall Pro Free (with Defense + Option) + MAM + SAS + WinPatrol + left Windows Defender as is.

I know, I know may be overkill ... but so far no probelms!

              G!

I decided to try Avira, and installed it Wednesday. I like it, scan time ran 1 hr and 20 min, compared to AVG's 2 hr 45 min. One thing I'd like to ask is, how do you disable the notification ad for the premium version after an update? I don't see anything related to it in the setup.

Due to that fact that it is the free version, the only way to remove it is to purchase the premium version and that will get rid of the nag.

I did see one way to get rid of the nag but ethically I think you need to be nagged.

Avira is well worth the subscription and malware writters shouldn't be the only ones getting paid

Free is nice but don't expect a lot

                        @westly32

Normally you can't remove the nag asking you to update, same thing on AVG had a nag attached to the update wanting you to update.

This is worth a try, it worked for me with MUSICMATCH it had a nag before you connected to the internet and I was able to get rid of it in the registry.

Get the free COMODO REGISTRY CLEANER, www.comodo.com and install it.

Run the registry cleaner for ALL the options they have and see if you see anything for AVIRA antivirus, if you do check out where the nag is and remove it using COMODO REGISTRY CLEANER or using REGEDIT.

Just finished changes to basic protection. My goal was to keep the resource use as low as possible.

                          AVIRA for antivirus
                          MALWAREBYTES for malware
                          MICROSOFT (custom settings) for firewall
JV16 POWER TOOLS for registry cleaner
                          REGISTRYFIX7 for registry cleaner
                          CCLEANER for start-up registry cleaner

So far, same amount of spam in mailbox (small) using AVIRA instead of AVG

                            Hi Ed,

Q: How come you did not use the Comodo Reg Cleaner!?!?

BTW, that was a Great Post ... I did not realize Comodo was offering a FREE Reg Cleaner! THANKS!
                            G!

                              Hi gonwk,

I still use COMODO registy cleaner when JV16 power tools, and RegistryFix7 can't find anymore registry errors.

I just generally feel COMODO registry cleaner is a bit too agressive, a few weeks ago after removing all the registy errors that Jv16 power tools and RegistryFix7 found, I did a restore point, and ran COMODO registry cleaner and it found approximately 80 more registry errors.

I looked into what COMODO had found and I could not prove to myself that all 80 more registy errors should be removed, maybe 10, but no more.

But, COMODO registry cleaner works good, it found two registry errors associated with MUSICMATCH that Jv16 power tools, and RegistryFix7 could not find.

                                Hi Ed,

Boy o boy ... I better not mess around with "Registry Cleaners" ... if it ain't dummy-proof I will probably delete something that I shouldn't have.

I have never used a Reg Cleaner ... SOOOooo!!!

Ed ... If I want to get my feet wet and learn a bit about Reg Cleaners which one would you recommend to me!?!?

                                THANKS!
