So many people say Firefox is the best Explorer and Internet Explorer is so bad that I agree with over Internet Explorer. I've had so many problems with Internet Explorer crashing, making my PC sluggish where it takes a while to close down afterwards and when it seems to run smoothly, there's times when a Runtime Error appears when I close it down after use. What my point is, I want to install Firefox but one thing puts me off that made me get rid of it a while ago. It's the Favourites. I can add my Favourites to it but I could never back them up in a created folder. With Internet Explorer, whatever Favourites I have there are not shown in Firefox. Whatever Favourites that are in Firefox are not in Internet Explorer. I've had other Eplorers that share the same Favourites folder with Internet Explorer. Anyway, how do I back-up my Favourites from Firefox to a created folder? When I do this with Internet Explorer, I use my Windows Search, choose my C-Drive and type Favorites and I get them listed. Then I copy and paste them in my created folder. I back-up my Favourites now and then because I don't want them cluttering-up my Favourites and when my Favourites have too much inside, things are sluggish when it comes to adding another Favourite and when choosing one.

Sorry to rattle on, this can also help others as well explain to them why their Favourites run sluggish when adding more and chosing one.

What puts me off Firefox more is the fact that others said in the other thread, their Favourites disappear and come back due to the Firefox database. What is the point in that? I could need a Favourite and it could be gone for weeks or forever. Firefox have no right to tamper with our Pc use all because they can't work things right. I wonder if I should look for a different Explorer all together. I've had problems with Firefox before but I never thought they mess with our Favourites.

i'd say more or less by mistake and stupidity the format in which the bookmarks were saved was changed from one ff version to another

this resulted in updated ff version not being able to load the old files

problem was solved and all is well now - no need to worry
give ff a chance and i should think you won't regret it

i have ff running on many machines and i won't trade it in for anything else

it even works fine (with imported bookmarks) as a "portable version" from an usb drive so i have my favourites at hand whenever i need them (same goes for thunderbird and my mailaccounts)

Many thanks for the help. I'll return to Firefox. The Internet Exploer has driven me mad lately and I believe Microsoft need to buck-up their ideas and create more updates for it. As I said, many thanks for the help.

If you have your own ftp access then the Bookmarks sync and sort AddOn alone makes it worth using Firefox 2.x. Right now too many of the AddOns I like to use would be broken for me to move to 3.x. With Bookmarks sync and sort, when you download into another Firefox 2.x all the formatting of the bookmarks, like personal toolbar, is preserved. So basically you set up all your bookmark folders or whatever on your toolbar and the rest of your bookmarks, one time. Upload it. Then you just download into another Firefox 2.x and it's all done.

More of the AddOns are being fixed for 3.x but I don't think the Sync N Sort guy is doing it anymore so that's a big bummer for moving up. Unless somebody does his idea for the new format bookmarks.

I looked at Foxmarks. I prefer Bookmark sync & sort. It works with my ftp server.. not some central server that may or may not be there tomorrow. Plus I like that sync and sort can be set to be totally manual. I don't like stuff syncing by itself. I like to push the button.

I've been using it for several years and the only thing that breaks it is the eliminaton of .html format. The only reason I can think to eliminate that is to have cross-searching between history, form fills, bookmarks etc... Enough stuff comes up when I type in the address bar without adding all that clutter in on top of it.

But don't pay any attention to me. I only try Win95 after Win98 comes out.
