Power LED should be connected to PSU?

After e-mail tags w/Rosewill they got back to me yesterday saying that my power led should be connected directly to the PSU? That connecting it to the power led connector on the mobo might fry the mobo? This I think is bs str8 up n down. Why would the mobo even bother having a power led connector if that was the case? The more they don't need to build into the mobo the better off they are cost and time wise.

So please give me some input on this nonsense of having to plug the power led female connector to a dedicated 4 pin molex. There's no way in my conceivable mind a led light needs that much power or can fry the mobo by being connected to it's proper led connector on the mobo. Matter of fact I have my 3 80mm fans + the cpu fan connected to the mobo n had no problems. There's 3 chassis fan connectors on my mobo so in essence it can handle them. I know some have concerns about over heating the mobo but I feel this is in par w/some not really documented preference instead of facts afaic.

There's no where to purchase the wires or the harness separately. Alternative is to go to some schools or other org. and ask if they've thrown out some cases and ask if it's alright to take the harness out. This was suggested online via Google. Either that or just use my build w/out the power led which I'm still waiting for the GPU from HIS to come back to be able to do.

So is it really a big deal not having the power led light not working, but the PC still powering up? I need input on this one so I'd really appreciate it.

I'm not through w/Rosewill. I'm hitting Newegg next. Although what I receive from here will determine to what extent if any I'll pursue. Thnx.

like you said: the leds are far from necessary but i understand you want to have them showing up properly but what's wrong with them now?

are we taliing about the normal leds or do you have a very special version illuminating the entire neighbourhood?

i have never encountered leds which were NOT connected directly to the mobo

If a motherboard can't handle powering up a lousy low amp led it sure couldn't power a CPU or anything else for that matter. Sounds like Rosewill hired $2 /hour techs!!!!
It may be that the led is shot but I would try reversing the wires on the led plug. Led's are DC and won't work if the voltage is reversed.

Exactly, and basically they're just not wanting to acknowledge the fact that the power led female connector was rigged to a non-standard concoction that I as a new builder didn't notice until the light went off. After checking for any loose connections I noticed it should of been a standard 3 to 4 pin female led connector that went str8 to my mobo's 3 pin w/the middle pin missing. Instead it was connected to a 4 pin molex.

Our lab specified that the LED power female wire connector should be connected to PSU but not motherboard. If LED power female wire connector gets to motherboard, it might drain too much power. Therefore, we suggest you to do so to see if this problem can be resolved.

Newegg'll RMA it but to hell w/that. That's worse than a clean install which I breeze through. I got them to send me the RMA anyway w/the option of a $15 credit towards any future purchase should I not send it back. Which I'm not. I wasn't even guaranteed the new one wouldn't come w/the same rigged connection. I can live w/out a power led as long as the PC powers up. I just need confirmation that I was correct in that the mobo can handle that n more.

That is totally wrong, I have always connected the power LED to the motherboard. The motherboard has the dropping resistor for the LED. I am sure the reason the LED burned up is there was no dropping resistor with the connection to the power supply connector. The purpose of the dropping resistor is to drop the voltage down to the LED operating voltage which is usually 1.6Vdc

DR if you want I can make up a LED for the motherboard which is the proper way of connecting the LED. IT is very simple to make up the led and wire harness. I have all the supplies to make up LED harness and the LED's. The only colors I have is red and green LED what color would you like. I might have yellow also.

I know they're fos. Remember I told you how even Newegg knows that some of the stuff they chuck from Manufacturers is faulty somehow and that many will just suck it up instead of bringing it to their attention? A lot of consumers won't do like I and many others and press for a exchange or w/e. When someone does they'll try at 1st to get out of it, but if you continue to make your point, then they'll cave in w/a compromise to smooth things over. They wanted me to RMA it, in the same box if that's not a joke. Got it back in last May. They know that. They also wanted everything which is ludicrous. I'd have to strip n look over both PC's to do that. Finally I pressed for a viable accommodation via credit. The rep already had $15 on the tip of her tongue, but not until I pressed. I tried to increase to $25 but no dice. I'll take $15. I'll be ordering again soon.

They're not perfect. No business is. 99% of time they've been otm. Better than most.

Well $15 is better than nothing. But if NewEgg continues to receive even more complaints about a vendor they will start to with hold orders. This will force the vendor to have a better QA instituted.
