    try repeatedly tapping the F1 key while booting up as this is how to get to the BIOS setup on my rig. once in the BIOS check to make sure your hard drive is being recognized. personally I would try unplugging everything from the computer except the keyboard, mouse and monitor including all but one stick of ram and try to boot it. if no luck try swapping ram sticks. hope this helps.

      Check boot path
      Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.

      Could not read from selected boot disk.

      Check boot path and disk hardware.

      Symptom
      Boot.ini file is corrupt or missing.

      After BIOS POST, you’ll see a message that begins “Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem,” “Could not read from selected boot disk,” or “Check boot path and disk hardware.”
      Cause
      The Boot.ini file has been deleted, is corrupted, or no longer references the boot volume because the addition of a partition has changed the Advanced RISC Computing (ARC) name of the volume.
      Resolution
      Boot.ini is the very first files that come into play when a Windows XP system is started up. It is a text file that is kept in the system root, so usually C:\boot.ini. Because it is an essential system file, the attributes are set to hidden, system, read-only to protect it.

      Boot.ini contains the location of the Windows XP operating system on the computer.

      Use Windows XP Recovery Console to fix by command : bootcfg /rebuild.

      that is what seems to be the problem, how do I fix that when I can not boot the computer up at all?

        The list is what a boot.ini file should look like. I just copied from my Acer laptop. You could try to use this one that I have listed below. I beleive that it should be that same as your computer.

        [boot loader]
        timeout=10
        default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
        [operating systems]
        multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=WIN

          That is what mine says I still can not boot up. I am hoping someone can help.

            Have you had any luck getting it to boot from the optical drive.

              I threw in the towl!

              Instead I went searching for the box of new computer parts and found a new 160 gig hard drive so I decided to put that HD in and start over and load windows fresh to a clean HD. It boots up now.

              Although my C drive is now my F and G drive is now my C but who cares it all works. (KNOCK ON WOOD)

              and somewhere in the mix I managed to blow out a pc that was running, well not sure if I blew it out but that one isnt booting up now. Go figure. I still have the issue of retreiving the 60 gigs of VIP programs and documents off my original MAIN computer that went out first. Ya been working on 4 computers with all different isssues. So I am sure I will be posting a lot in the near future.

                That is what we are here for to help out here. One thing I would do when you get a chance is set up the computers to change the boot order. Make the optical drive the first boot device. That way in the future you might be able to fix possible boot issues like you had with the computer.

                  most systems or newer systems should i say have f12 or esc keys work at boot time for boot device loading . thus u dont have to worry bout system auto booting by that bootable cd.
                  Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

                    Hi PhotoAngel,

                    I was going to suggest a 10 Oz. Ball-Pin Hammer as a last resort! ... just kidding ...

                    I am glad you are out of Hot-Water!
