Right, but he says he's never tested it with a SP1 CD.

Since previously slipstreamed discs work, you think it would be easier to just slipstream it with SP2 first, then do it again with SP3?

            That's what I would do

Ok this is going to sound stupid, but what is slipstream?

What I usually do on a clean install is xp with sp2 then download sp3 and intall it. I'm I doing something wrong?

I'm guessing that slipstreaming is a fast way of doing this.

Sorry if I'm going off topic.

It is where you would use your SP2 disk, slip in SP3 with nlite, and burn a new install disk that's SP3.

HERE is some info about how to do it in another thread.

So the way I've been doing it in incorrect? You have to burn sp3 to a disc? What's the advantage?

DRF Without going into details, what Chewy said is most likely the best route to go because some apps fixed in service pack 2 were REFIXED in SP3. It's a vicious circle!
They tried to Assimilate me and failed!

                      What, slipstreaming it twice?

I mean, I could just install it with SP1 and use those network installers... I guess it would just be nice to have a disc I could use for reformatting that has it all pre-included, you know?

There is nothing wrong with the way you have been doing it, it is not incorrect. I still do it the same way as you described. Slipstreaming is just another way to do an install, but you better make sure that you create your slipstream disc properly. Little tip for doing an install, create a folder call it Install & everything you install, put it in that folder & save it, so that if you ever have to do it again, you have stuff that you know works.

Thanks soup, my mind is little more at ease. I've got all my program's exes on a storage drive.

Not just your program exes, but drivers etc, anything you use on the install. All my programs I keep in a folder I call keeper programs, all of them, not only for my machine, but also the other 3 machines in the house. Totally agree with Chewy as regards to not only back them up to a hard drive, but also disc. I mean what does it cost, a few cents.

DRF there's a thread by a regular member on how to install and build a custom pc. Chewy helped him. The rest is history.

No problems w/64 7. 7 goes online and snatches drivers 4 u, but I still do as suggested by soup and chewy about 2 years ago and backup to a cd-r/dvd-r or usb flash drive. I only use 64 compatible apps. until more become available. 64 7 also accepts x86 architecture.

Want to b really safe and on point, use Acronis True image or some other great software and clone your drive. Anything goes wrong just plug n play. Best thing I've done along w/getting a docking station.

nlite does just that. Lightens up your os. XP Home is about the lightest XP so according to your specs you could put it on like that w/sp3 and all your drivers slipped in 4 a quick and less bloated install. My sig helps.

I wouldn't play w/a laptop 4 beginners installation. Try use pc if you can. Other suggestion from senior member. Laptops are a delicate personal piece of equipment. You fry that not too much but send to manufacturer or chalk up to experience.
                                SAMSUNG SH-S203B, SAMSUNG SH-S223F,

Take the suggestions and follow the directions. The results will speak for themselves.

                                Google is definitely our friend.
