Is my HDD Dying?

I booted up my computer and it said I had issues with my 1TB storage drive.

Am I looking serious trouble?

It seems to go 66% for a bit and boots OS. Will repaet on every reboot now.

try backing up important files asap, buy a new drive and replace the drive in question

there seem to be problems and even though one might continue using the disc for a while it may lead to a fatal error sooner than you like

I use true image to copy the hd and image the drive. I also have spinrite which is a very good diagnostic tool that I use. It also will try to fix the drive problems that you are having.

if haven't done already, id say backup then format or better remove partition and make new partition and format.

I need to order a new one.

It's a 1TB drive and I have about 850 GB on it.

I tried to access files to back up the "really" important stuff, but it locks up.

So this is where I'm at. I had CHKDSK finish and move things like it wanted.
Now I am on day 2 of re-indexing the drive, so hopefully it wont get confused.

I am thinking of splitting my storage to a couple of smaller drives.

This drive is barely a year old with a 3 year warranty. Think this is something WD would warranty?

HDD Regenerator is a very good tool for jobs like this!

Works fine from a bootable USB Drive for example.

Awesome. After indexing 250,000+ files this is finally recoverable.

I am backing up as we speak. Thank goodness for a laptop as a backup too.

Plus, after indexing everything it seem faster.

BTW the HDD regenerator is a good program also, it works like spinrite. I would contact Western Digital and talk to tech support and see what they say about the warranty. I would think that it would be but you never know. In any case you been a RMA to send it back. It could be a problem with the PC board on the hard drive. Well at least it is now working. I usually use my laptop then my desktop.

well if u have backup'ed ur data, try a format, and unless it start giving u write errors or slowdowns reading, i dont think its a time to change. but u never know
